Faaaaaarkin’ hell. So, the new video is done. I think. That was a headache.

There will be two versions of it – one that’s just for upper tiers. That’ll be an unfinished version that Sanja and I watched… and decided we didn’t like very much. I've mentioned to you that I was struggling with this edit, and when we watched the assembly cut back we realised why. It was just too heavy, the weighting of the sections was wrong, the funny bits weren’t funny, and it just felt oddly lacking in momentum. It didn’t feel like us, basically.

So… 20 minutes got cut out… we rearranged the order of the sections… and suddenly it’s a whole new video. It’s lighter, it moves faster, it makes its point more economically by showing instead of me getting on my soapbox, and the comic timing is better.

But! After you’ve seen the finished version, I’ll share the unfinished one, just so you can compare and contrast, if you fancied it. It’s why I love editing – how you can change the feel of something entirely with just a few small changes, the addition of the right music, the right order of scenes. It’s great when it works.

We both still wish we’d been able to go to the original locations – but it would’ve been another epic drive and we were sort of scared after our flat tire, so we didn’t want to push things. In the end I think we still got a great video out of it, which shows some places that most people don’t go, and still finds a way to compare the past and the present without getting too preachy.

Anyhow… will try to get it to you tomorrow – it’s just rendering now. We’ll watch it through once more, then get the bugger uploaded.
