Happy… Wednesday? I was stuck in a script the last couple of days, having edited over the weekend, so didn’t get a chance to do my usual Monday post. Worked until 10pm last night, and a bit knackered now, so taking it slightly easier today…
…By researching the next video we’re filming while Sanja syncs the sound on another of the ones we filmed last week.
You won’t have seen it, but when we were in the boat we got hit by the wake of another boat, my phone fell on the floor, and the adapter for our mic receiver snapped. We were still able to record to the mics, just not directly to the phone. Hence the manual syncing now.
Amusingly, I bought a new adapter from Amazon while we were in the middle of Ullswater. Bet nobody’s done that before. Full 4G service in a lake!
Here's hoping you all enjoyed the Excalibur video. I sound like a stuck record, but it truly feels like we've landed at where we want to be in terms of our content. That balance of factual stuff with the silly stuff is SO true to the original Digitiser ethos that I can't believe we hadn't realised it before.
As we said in the video, it's only now that the kids are all grown up that we have the freedom to do what we're doing, and as we go along we can feel ourselves getting better at it. Heck, we even watched Laurel & Hardy the other night to analyse their double act (if you've never watched any of their shorts; do - they're genuinely genius).
Anyway. Let's hope my body holds out for at least another decade, as we don't want to stop. And thank you for the comments and feedback so far on the latest one. Even if I don't always have the time and energy to respond straight away, we do read everything, and it helps us to hear what you've enjoyed.
I did feel hamstrung by my back while filming last week, but it also played into heightening my usual pompous irascibility. We'd had planned for a couple of character appearances in that video, but I was so limited and in so much pain that I couldn't be arsed with getting changed. I promise we've not forgotten that side of Digi. We're just waiting for the right opportunity.
I did have a moment before uploading the video about whether now, with everything happening in the world, was the right time for something so tongue-in-cheek and flippant.
This planet – humanity – continues to disappoint. But also, it’s not healthy simply to live a life in despair. If there’s no respite, no opportunity to forget all that for an hour… I dunno. I just feel it’s important to offer ways to shut it out. Thank god we are fortunate and privileged to have such an opportunity.
Our next video will actually be a touch more serious, albeit some steps removed from the current news headlines.
Basically… we went to Sellafield. With a Geiger counter (no, I didn't drink that water).

We ARE going to record BYAMPOD this week. Sorry there hasn’t been one for a couple of weeks. Truth is, after the Fish business, I had my enthusiasm dented.
We had an absolute ton of supportive feedback, but a few comments online seemed to so massively misunderstand where we were coming from that I was left feeling… well, sort of like our authenticity and honesty was becoming a handicap. Causing more trouble than it’s worth, basically.
Also, when covering the Fish issue (Fishue) we’d been privy to other information that we were asked not to mention on BYAMPOD, and that might’ve coloured some of our coverage.
BYAMPOD has always been something we wanted to do, and I never wanted us to get to a point where it was felt we had to do it. When it came to recording last week, that’s where I was at, and I thought it better to let some more water flow under the bridge.
Anyhow. I’m feeling ready. Ish.
That's it for now. We'll talk to some of you on Biffo's Brain tomorrow night.
