He is super good with this when he says Amen he uses the Plagal Cadence or Amen Cadence, which is IV chord to I chord however he destroys the sanctity of the cadence in last amen by going to a major IV to a minor i chord instead of the I, its so genius.

Like the song was not obviously queer coded in any way to most people prior to the video- it was just good and clearly the pronouns imply a heterosexual relationship. But the video was something else entirely and gave the song a second meaning that became infused in cultural memory. I honestly could only watch it twice. It was too real for my situation at the time.

I listened to this front to back on repeat, same with 1989, and just a bit before Bastille’s Bad Blood and Passenger’s All The Little Lights (which I was late to but loved) - having a nice succession of well rounded excellent albums made it a really nostalgic time for my music listening as it really reminded me of buying CDs and listening on a Walkman/ in the car over and over start to stop as opposed to focusing on singles. 💕

I remember being on holiday in the US and listening to it the whole time while we drove around Florida and Georgia. It's incredible that he just made this album having released nothing before. Basically Catholics are majorrrrr hard asses when it comes to what clarifies the body and soul for the sacraments, and Holy Communion (getting the bread and wine) is perhaps the most important sacrament in the church (this is because during mass, within the Catholic belief, the priest literally turns the physical bread and wine into the legit body and blood of christ. Like you are ingesting the real body and blood of christ after the priest's transformation, not bread and wine. Also yes that does make priests beings between humans and angels it's weird). In order for you to be able to receive it you have to go through what's known as your First Communion (if you're raised in the Catholic faith this tends to be around 2nd grade, but you can do this at any age so long as you're converting to Catholicism). In preparation for this sacrament you have to go through a bunch of classes and such, including most importantly going to confession First Communion on that Sunday so your soul is cleansed and your body is ready to accept the sacrament. So basically the reason you weren't allowed is because your body and soul were unclean and you didn't have the proper information stored away to know the whys of what communion and god and jesus and stuff was :) it's really weird :) i was raised catholic and i'm still flabbergasted about how they really and truly do believe all this stuff it's kinda fun when they aren't oppressive and evil
