EARLY ACCESS: BYAMPOD Ep 98 - UK 2022 Tour Review!

As the UK leg of the 2022 AHBID tour comes to a close, we take a look back at recent shows, and review the final night at Hammersmith; a show that was slightly more dramatic for us than anticipated...!

We also hear from some of you about everything from the tour to Tux On, Deluxe Editions, the video competition for Whatever Is Wrong With You... plus we talk a whole lot about death and grief.

Well thats my listening sorted for the near future! Thanks for all the recommendations (nice change from the same old floyd/genesis worship in the usual marillo circles) Just got my bum back on the sofa from seeing the charlatans, who have a bunch of decent tunes that I haven't heard in a long time.

Pete Pyjamas

Agree about Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' Ghosteen. It's a fantastic album - has such a great atmosphere. Also agree with Pete above about Push the Sky Away. Cave is a true poet and The Bad Seeds are all great musicians and writers in their own right. I have to say, although I was always an admirer of Cave and liked a lot of his material, it wasn't until 2004's double album Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus that I got properly into his music and became a fan. I highly recommend that one if you haven't heard it. I also really love the Cave/Bad Seeds side project, Grinderman. Those two albums are great - more of a louche, dirty rock sound. I know exactly what you mean about Geddy Lee's voice. It can often be shrill to the point of it being distracting, particularly on their early material. He sounds like Robert Plant played at the wrong speed. That said, I do really like a lot of Rush's stuff. Their albums A Farewell to Kings and Moving Pictures are excellent, and I also love Hold Your Fire and Counterparts. Their back catalogue is huge though - there's loads of material I still haven't heard. Guitarist Alex Lifeson recently formed a new band called Envy of None. Their debut album is rather good. Nothing like you'd expect from a guitarist known for Prog, It's more Garbage-esque alt rock.

Simon Lee Tranter

I'll give them a listen!

Oooh thank you Treacle!

BTW - i particularly like album recommendations of other bands during the podcast. Ghosteen didnt hit me right away, though Push The Sky Away is a masterpiece in my opinion. As for Rush thing, ive never really had a problem with Geddys voice - and i quite was looking forward to the Rush bit of that Talylor Hawkins tribute recently - but to my ears, what i heard was basically what id describe as unlistenable noise :-/ FWIW - my recommendation of the moment is anything by The Beths (Excellent jangly indie pop tunes)

Pete Pyjamas

The word Sanja was looking for is prandial. And my dad used to say "It's not the cough that carries you off It's the coffin they carry you off in", it must have been some sort of catchphrase.
