AN UPDATE!

Hello gang.

Just to say, you should have BYAMPOD tomorrow. We’re going to the Hammersmith gig tonight, and wanted to be able to do a proper review. Therefore, we won’t be recording until tomorrow morning. Hopefully along with an ep of Writer’s Club.

Hope to maybe see one or two of you at the show.

Oh! And we now have a plan for our imminent 100th episode. That’s all we shall say about it for now… Hoping to record that next week.

Our intention is to get back to all things Digitiser next week as well, and I’ll hopefully have an idea for when the next Biffo’s Brain is happening. I think we’ve put out some of our best ever videos this year, under difficult circumstances, but I’d really like to get a bit more ambitious in terms of guests, location filming etc. Get back to going on the road again, like we did quite a bit last year.

Often, it has been a real escape. The fact that we made one of my top 3 Digi videos ever – the recent Action Man one – while my dad was in hospital, is testament to that.

We’ll also now begin thinking about scheduling the next lot of Digi Level 2 filming. It should be a busy rest of the year for us, one way or another.

We’re still slightly struggling with finding a venue for Digi Live 3. We’ve got a shortlist, but none of them quite have the convenience (for us anyway) – and familiarity (for you) – that Harrow Arts offered. That’s a shame, but their change of policy just makes it impossible for us. Wherever we do end up, it’ll be the right venue for everyone, and for what we have planned to celebrate 30 years of Digi in grand fashion!

Right now, one of the candidates is my old high school. If we go with that, the show will take place on the same stage I used to put on silly shows when I went there. That’ll be weird.

Anyway.

All of this, all that we do under the banner of this Patreon, has been a gift really. We’re so lucky to have an audience that’s there for whatever we want to do. And you’re all so nice. Like, you’re just nice people. Between Digi and BYAMPOD, we’ve such a brilliant community around us. That’s the thing that amazes me most. Nobody’s a dickhead. You’re just all so kind and supportive, and understanding.

Also, thanks again for all the kind words over the past 10 days, and for sticking by us during this time.

As ever, we feel properly blessed by you all. Feels like family.

Paul

Thanks for this update and glad that you're both doing okay especially in light of everything. Hope you have a great time at the gig! Regarding venues for Digi Live next year, I was going to suggest a place that is near to me (no, not for my convenience, but now that you mention it...! ;) ) but saw you had a lot of options at the time, plus I wonder if it might not be quiiiiiite big enough and if it might be a bit far for you guys and others. BUT I will suggest it, since you are still in need of options: it's the Maltings in Ely, Cambridgeshire (the city I've called home for just over 30 years!). It's a lovely old building by the river and close to the station (which is great for travel to and from London, etc. (45 mins to an hour to get to Kings Cross) and other places) and it is where we have our local CAMRA annual beer festival. It has a decent sized hall with stage (used as an arts cinema and for some theatre still, I think), a bar, a bit of space near said bar for socialising and, with the beer festival, people just buy tickets upon arrival from the CAMRA volunteers from a makeshift counter, so it seems that you could just book the venue (and pay deposit or whatever - no idea) and get all ticket revenue beforehand. Here is their website: https://www.themaltingsely.org.uk/bookings/conferences And here is their brochure: https://www.themaltingsely.org.uk/maltings-conference-brochure.pdf

Have a great time at the gig! You certainly deserve a fun evening out with all that has been going on lately. I do like the idea of hosting the Digi Live at your old school if Harrow Arts doesn't work out. But, we'll be there whatever the venue.

You two going off enjoying yourselves - HYPE! BYAM pod 100- HYPE! Possible new Writers Club and Biffo's Brain - HYPE! Digi returning to create amazing original content -HYPE! I'm eating a pocket of Royster Crisps - HYPE! So much HYPE, not enough typage or attention span to include it all. Hope you find the perfect place for Digi Live 3. Book it and we will come! (Ps love to you all)

Nobody is a dickhead you say? Job vacancy going there then, can I apply? Official dickhead of Digi. Bucket of iced water filled with tinnies at an event, I'll piss in it for you. Onstage performing, I'll sit farting when it's quiet and yelling "smell those Tuareg campfires" turning to people who object with an aggressive "you what mate?" I'd also be in the comments of every video and tweet just ripping on you and everyone else. Sound good?

Best of luck with everything, don't rush it if you're not quite there yet! 👍

Cheers, feller. Thanks for the Brown Trumpet reminder! Also... the other good thing about my old school is that it really is about three minutes walk from Harrow Arts, so still in the neighbourhood.

Paul Rose (Mr Biffo)

Interesting thought. I'll have a think. The issue is... Harrow Arts have put up the prices by a lot. Which also impacts the up-front deposit, but it'd have to be passed along to you lot - along with Harrow Arts' non-negotiable booking fee.

Paul Rose (Mr Biffo)

On the subject of celebrating 30 years of Digi, you asked me to remind you nearer the time about potentially promoting it with a new Brown Trumpet. You’ve touched on this, but with the level of support - and creativity - in the community, you might just get some cracking entries. Not being at Harrow Arts will obviously feel strange, but your old high school? Surely in the 30th anniversary year, that would be beautiful synchronicity. Look after yourselves, hope everyone is holding up ok.

It'd be a shame not to have the show at HAC - it feels like home for Digi. I realise it sounds a bit odd, but if the problem is not getting the ticket money until after the show, is there a way you could crowdfund a "bridging loan"? That is, people could buy a ticket from HAC, but also separately send you some money upfront, that would be refunded to us after you've received the money from HAC. A bit like Marillion did with their tour insurance.
