I think the reason the door to the kitchen is right by the room with the piano is because the rest of the room “behind the camera” is actually a dining room so kelsi can play during dining hours. The door is probably for wait staff to bring food in and out of the kitchen and dining room.

I don't think the plot was so much "Troy can't take the scholarship and should only focus on his friends cause friends are everything!", I think the issue was more focused on HOW Troy was going about it. Spreading himself too thin, never saying no, treating his friends almost like employees (although not always his fault in that case but the scene where he pushes off Chad because he wanted a different kind of cheese gave that message). Although he was saying yes to great opportunities, he was always being backed into a corner to saying yes to everything Sharpay wanted that he didn't have to do, like performing with her. He also kind of did say no so many times saying he didn't want to perform, but she then asked him at dinner in front of everyone clearly on purpose so that he said yes. I think people defend Sharpay saying "she got him so many opportunities she really cares about him!", but they are all for her own benefit. Performing a song with Troy is not giving him an opportunity. Scholarship people do not need to watch him sing on stage lmao, she wanted to get close to him. It was clearly for her. Like when her and Gabriella were arguing, Sharpay goes "you're just mad that I won". All Sharpay has done the first two movies is have a one sided competition with Gabriella. And like Gabriella said, "what's the prize, Troy?" Although Sharpay is iconic I fear people defend her a bit too much because of that. I agree the ending feels a little confusing, they could've made it more clear how things were planned and why.

I'm unsure if people have answered this but from my understanding, i think the everyday performance was supposed to be a group performance for the wildcats, while you are the music in me was supposed to be sharpay and troy's performance. gabriella did not know about it, there's a deleted scene in which it is shown that she gets told about it by taylor and convinced to come back to perform. it was a last minute performance for troy because he wasn't initially supposed to be involved, but everyone else knew about it, since it was supposed to be their performance prior to staff performances being cancelled. hope this makes sense x loved your reaction to these movies so much!!

Just some thoughts about the ending. When Troy learned the song we could assume that Kelsi added his and Gabriella’s part onto the original. I think originally it was more of a group number (as show cases earlier in the movie) but with Kelsi’s made composer skills she was able to adapt the song to the situation. That way Troy and Gabriella could have a big reunion. I agree that it was kinda confusing and still seems just thrown together so they could have a happy ending. Hope this helps 🫶🏼

I have genuinely like zero recollection of the third film but I feel strongly that the “I gotta go my own way” track would have been a better fit in a plot about them applying for/ going to college where Gabby is a super genius and Troy is an athlete and they’d probably have shifting priorities. It’s a great song about a respectful if hard breakup (especially for a kids film) and it would have held more weight if they didn’t immediately get back together. Like a few weeks ago I heard it again for the first time in years outside the context of the film and I was genuinely like “wow this song is shockingly similar to my experience of ending a many year relationship at the end of college because I was going to grad school and my partner had dropped out and we had shifting values that wouldn’t sustain a long distance relationship” and I assumed the track was from the “going to college” movie 😅

Just to clarify some of the plot points that caused confusion, the movie is basically putting into context how chasing your dreams can make you loose yourself and your morals. Troy was forgetting his friends, blowing off dates, becoming someone who they didn’t recognize. When he realized that he could still work on his future in basketball and singing while still being himself, he quit the show with Sharpay and took his kitchen job back. When that happened he made up with Chad and they told Gabriella that the old Troy was back and that’s when they started planning the big reveal of them getting back together. At the end when they all danced to “Everyday”, that was the song they were originally rehearsing to do at the talent show without Troy but decided it was better suited for Troy to sing with Gabriella. They weren’t trying to say that scholarships/college aren’t important, just that you shouldn’t loose yourself trying to figure out your future. I adore your reactions and I can’t wait to watch you react to the 3rd movie!!! ❤️

also yeah, lol, there's a pretty crucial deleted scene where someone goes to get gabriella and get her back on board. that's also why she has her necklace back when she shows up. ryan pulled the wool over sharpay's eyes with the song switch (she can't crash and burn if she can't even perform, after all lol.) honestly the logic kinda falls apart at the end, don't think about it too hard. i like HSM2 over 1 despite it's more extreme highs and lows simply because the songs i love, i LOVE (you are the music in me is absolutely superior, no notes; bet on it, i dont dance, and fabulous are instantly iconic; summer is high energy fun; and work this out is fun and catchy as hell.) despite it generally being messier, i love the vibe and the slight toning down of the cheese in this one over the first lol

lol i think you missed that sharpay and ryan's parents are on the board of the country club and that their dad "built" the golf course; they basically own it which mean that the entire movie, fulton is trying to do sharpay's bidding of driving the other east high kids to quit while dragging troy in deeper. and on top of troy's dad giving characteristically narrow minded, self-centered advice, he's also just 17 and a bit of a himbo, and so is not very good at navigating this situation, nor has he ever been the sole focus of a manipulator (near narcissist) like sharpay it's a good conflict, more mature than the usual DCOM imo. it's not wrong for troy to be looking out for his future, but gabriella said it best: at a certain point, the choices, the excuses you make along the way become who you are. and the fact that this DCOM is actually framing it that way instead of softballing it, i just find it very interesting that they chose to actually communicate that warning to middle and high schoolers. it's a subtle life lesson that doesn't get talked about much, let alone in kids programs

So a few of my favourite things that I never realised about this film (until someone on the internet pointed them out) is that Gabriella briefly loses her shoe on the reprise of What Time Is It in front of the fountain, and that after Fabulous when Gabriella dives the pool, it's a stunt double, plus Ryan and Chad switching outfits after I Don't Dance (!!!!!!) Also I cannot wait for HSM 3, the first two films have been so much fun. One of my all time favs is Lemonade Mouth so would love a reaction to that one too!

Vanessa Hudgens didn't know how to swim when they filmed this movie, kinda funny that she plays a lifeguard. You can see on the scene that Sharpay pretends to drown in the pool, that the "Gabriella" jumping to save her is a stunt double. I’m so happy you are watching these!! A couple things: 1. Did you notice that Ryan & Chad change into each other’s clothes after the baseball scene? 👀 2. The problematic fish song wasn’t in the original movie, it was a bonus scene for the DVD. 3. I think originally Ryan & Gabriella were going to sing the duet together at the talent show but Kelsey/Ryan was trying to help Gabriella out and got Troy to do it instead so they’d get back together. (Still fucked over Sharpay but she was being a brat the whole movie). 4. After the success of the first movie they included Disney channel fans in a few aspects of this movie- including voting on a line that Troy would say and what Disney channel star we wanted to cameo: of course everyone voted for Miley Cyrus! Movie #3 is my favorite. This one has a lot of holes, but some iconic songs!!! Thanks again for helping me relive my childhood.

YES I’m so glad you watched it AND confirmed you’ll watch #3! A few thoughts: - Utah! The first film is in Salt Lake City, and this second film was shot in St. George, UT! As someone who grew up in STG it meant everything to see it on screen. I’m glad you appreciated the scenery! If you ever have the chance to go I highly recommend visiting it and Zion National Park and Snow Canyon State Park (one of the shots you can see Sharpay’s convertible driving through Snow Canyon). I was so mad that I found out that they filmed there and i never saw them, or in the film (we were 10 we never would’ve been in it) and this was pre-social media so there wouldn’t have been any tweets/posts about where they were at. For how big these films got w/out social media it would be wild to see now - FILM HISTORY: this premiere not only broke the record for Disney channel, but had the largest viewership in cable tv history - During “You Are The Music in Me” you ask “How do they know the words??” So funny you said that in this movie but not the last, because a lot of people made fun of in the first movie for the first song (karaoke), because they stopped looking at the screen and only looked at each other. So I’m pretty sure in this one they carried around the music sheets in attempt to keep it “realistic” 💀 - Humuhumu was NOT apart of the original movie, they later released it as a “bonus scene” … we pretend it doesn’t exist - Fun fact: Lucas Greebel (Ryan) was recovering from knee surgery when they made I Don’t Dance - You NEED to go back and watch the post- baseball scene w/ Ryan and Chad. LOOK AT THEIR OUTFITS 👀 - Troy ditching friends to play with RedHawks: tough situation as you say this is how I take it: Sharpay meddling for the wrong reasons was wrong. Troy taking opportunities was never wrong, but blowing off friends and dates was, he just needed to keep more organized. The friends were in the wrong saying “you can’t choose a scholarship instead of us” it should’ve never been an “us or them” situation. For confusing “plot holes” - Sharpay briefly mentions that Troy was on the high school golf team. Chad does baseball and track and field, hence their skills on the course and diamond. Troy knowing how to play and talking about it with the Redhawks made sense - Everyday number, and the moving ending (at least how I’ve made sense of it since I was 11 (when it came out)): After Kelsey hears Troy back out of Sharpay’s show, she plots with Ryan, Chad and the team to get Gabriella to come back and convinces her after relaying that he got his kitchen job back that Troy is “good again”. You were correct Everyday is the song they were previously practicing for the show, that Troy wasn’t apart of, but they just would’ve replaced Ryan’s vocal part and choreo with Troy, and Ryan takes an ensemble spot. That might be a lot to assume but it’s a musical so it’s not out of place. That’s how I take it anyway Pumped for #3!

I think imo it was obvi about him getting the scholarship but it was how it was approached to him and his decisions on how to move forward with it. Like we got the dialogue of his dad basically telling him that he needs to seize the opportunity no matter how it’s given to you therefore him ignoring his friends, never saying no to sharpay when he knew what she was doing, and him distancing himself from his friends . So I think the main plot was don’t step on your friends to get to the top lol. I really hope tht makes sense and this was my interpretation from it. Love the video! so good! I would say check out descendants (all three lol thy are so fun) and lemonade mouth

agree w your overall assessment - the songs are INCREDIBLE and some of the most iconic musical moments in the trilogy are in this movie. however! definitely the weakest least compelling plot of the trilogy, so… this is more of a mindless watch compared to the other two. now the quality of the third movie, which was in movie theaters instead of disney channel… it’s just completely unparalleled. you’re not ready! anyway thanks for this FUN fun watch, revisiting these has been so great!

2 things!! 1- Yes every club in the golf bag is important; depending on the golfer, you need every single one. They are all angled differently and go different distances when hit consistently, so that's why Sharpay's dad gives Troy praise for giving him the 5-iron because it was the correct distance for the shot; golf is definitely technical lol. 2- I love your videos sooo so much and need to see you watch the third movie (that does talk about college and all the growing up stuff more) like now!!! - you're right that the ending doesn't make sense. It's like they brought up some really deep points about what kids go through at this point in their lives and then didn't see any of that stuff through. Like Troy and Gabriella didn't even reconcile before just starting to sing together? There are definitely some gaps. - the back to back combo of I Gotta Go My Own Way and Bet On It is everything to me. Best solos in the series imo. - it's very important that you know that Chad and Ryan have their outfits switched in that short scene after the baseball game. And I feel like Corbin Bleu and Lucas Grabeel have mentioned that they played it as a queer subplot among themselves even if Disney wouldn't actually see that through. - After HSM 3 I'd recommend other DCOMs especially the Cheetah Girls series and the Camp Rock series. Both have great music and absolutely wild plots and over-the-top everything.

I think once Troy's friends realized he owned up to his mistakes and stood his ground with Sharpay, they basically gave their talent show performance ("Everyday") to Troy and Gabriella to help them get back together again. Yeah, they sabotaged Sharpay's performance with Troy which kinda sucks and was confusing but I think the point was that they all came together again to resolve their relationship by merging their performances into one.

okay hiiiii so my understanding of the “Everyday” song/scene is: -troy tells sharpay off and that he won’t sing with her -kelsey witnesses this and tells everyone else (including gabriella) -since kelsey had said from the beginning her plan for the talent show was to have it revolve around troy and gabriella, they reverted back to that plan, but didn’t tell troy (to surprise him) -ryan was in on this plan and got his final lil revenge on sharpay for toying with him the WHOLE DAMN MOVIE by telling troy maybe he should actually sing with sharpay but that there was a “new song” to learn for it -sharpay was obviously not included on this plan, but the friends used this opportunity to get troy and gabriella back together through SONG (their love language) -the choreography done with the whole group towards the end of the song is the same as when we see them rehearsing earlier in the film -sharpay accepts the consequences of her actions and that ryan actually bested her (go ryan)

I always assumed it was originally multiple people got solos in the song but once they saw Troy step up, Ryan decided to change it to a duet and trick Sharpay cause she needed a reality check. Since there was enough time, they probably told Gabriella and she drove over. So yeah Ryan decides to trick Sharpay so she understands consequences 😂. And I assume the only choreo they got to do from their original plan was the part when the group comes in.

Yeah same! The song they were rehearsing earlier as a group was Everyday so this was meant to be the song they all perform. They called Gabriella when they found out they could perform at the show afterall and Ryan used this as an opportunity to bring Gabriella and Troy back together (and maybe even teach his sister a lesson, who knows) :)

I think for the end scene, it was more like yes they had a duet planned (prob Gabriella and Ryan), but they put Troy into the show after he came back to them in a sense. They were always planning that song because they were dancing to Everyday music in the rehearsal scene where all of them are dancing with Ryan. And sharpay simply got her karma but also was still embraced as a wildcat in the end. Sharpay also wanted to sing a song she stole from Troy and Gabriella in the first place, so to me it was perfect that Troy and Gabriella got to sing in the end. Sharpay was certainly meant to be the antagonist up to this point. The next movie certainly has other villains that sort of outway Sharpay. She just is the ultimate it girl and wants the ultimate it boy I think.
