HAPPY BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY UPDATE
Added 2022-08-29 10:36:09 +0000 UTCHappy (Bank Holiday) Monday, you lot.
Plans for this week:
Upper tiers outtakes from last week’s episode (which is doing really well by our standards - hurrah) right after I post this.
New Digi with me and Sanja. Plus filming with Gannon at some point, hopefully.
A Biffo’s Brain on Thursday evening at 7.30pm.
Another BYAMPOD with Pedanthony.
Probably a BYAMPOD bonus podcast.
Writer’s Club podcast.
If you’re wondering how we are doing… it’s same old same old, so I won’t rehash it here yet again.
However, this week we won’t have houseguests for the first time in about three weeks. Of course, we love our family, but - with everything else we have going on – becoming an Airbnb for the best part of a month did impact on our ability to get stuff done. With my daughter’s wedding and Cheapshow Live before that, and with all the kids home from college and uni, August was pretty much just a write-off.
This is why people have summer holidays, I guess.
Anyway, we’re going all out this week with the long overdue painting commissions, and getting Digi Live 3 sorted.
Nicely, after the stomach punch of getting turned down for the job I really, really wanted, I also had a couple of little gigs come across my radar last week.
The first one might end up not being so little, as I’m helping the brilliant Nikki Heald of Nikki and Bunty fame with an ambitious indie game she’s making, Super Quantum Witch 3000. I’m grateful to her for taking a chance on me when the games industry wouldn’t, and thus far I’m loving the process. It’s exactly what I hoped it'd be; mixing my love of games with my love of writing, in precisely the way I imagined.
I also got approached, out of the blue, about writing for the YouTube channel Mashed. If you don’t know them, they produce parody animations of Mario and Sonic and the like. Despite being backed by Channel 4, their budget is tiny, but they have an ENORMOUS audience. I’m hoping that might, in some way, rub off on Digi. It’s not technically games industry, but gaming adjacent, so it’s nice to see my games journo history and my writing experience coming together.
Oh, and I’ve added to my gigs on Fiverrr, to include article/blog posts. As I’ve said elsewhere, I’ve really enjoyed being on there. I’ve not had a lot of commissions yet, but it’s early days, and already I’ve worked on projects that I never would’ve been attached to otherwise. I also got a nice tip from one of the buyers last week, and he Zoomed me to say thank you. Coming off the back of everything, I got a bit emosh. Likewise when our BYAMPOD listener Ian Winnick sent us a massive box of biscuits and tea last week. Wheeeee! I’m a mess!!!!
Anyway, if you want to book me to write for you, here’s my Fiverr page.
Right. Think that’s about it for an update for now. Hoping to have some Digi Live and Digi Level 2 news for you later this week.
LOVE YOU.
Paul

2022-08-29 14:56:12 +0000 UTCThe prices for a fully researched gaming article seem exceptionally good given the amount of effort research takes! Although I have a feeling if I asked you for 750 words on how block-level potential visibility sets are created and used in the Midtown Madness engine you'd be justified in telling me where to stick it :) In addition to all the other positive things about it, hopefully SQW3000 will count as a credit on an existing game once it's published, as far as games industry recruiting is concerned.
