This was a huge moment for music and culture and after finishing the album I can SEE WHY! This was my first time listening all the way through the self-titled and I was so surprised by the songs I did recognize because of how ICONIC they are, my goodness! There's even a video of KRIS JENNER being the host on one of the pageant shows she was on as a small child :((( Bey's journey has not been as beautiful and empowering as we would like to think. I love this woman but she herself admits that she was put THROUGH it as a child and would never wish the same for her kids SLASH she works each day to make sure her children are empowered and don't have to deal with what she went through to make it into the creative space. As a black girl you had to be EVERYTHING and more. UGH.

Considering this album changed the music industry in more ways than one, I don’t understand how the recording academy could sit there and say, “nah this wasn’t album of the year.” Like, wtf!?! Also, I agree with others on this comment thread that you should watch the visuals for this album and react to Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange. The songs ‘Super Rich Kids’, ‘Lost’, ‘White’, and ‘Thinkin Bout You’ off that album are just too damn good. Either way though, thank you for listening to this album Troy! Always love your reactions, but I love your Beyoncé reactions even more because of what she does to you physically and emotionally 😂

As dancey as this album is, when you put it in the context of this releasing before Lemonade, songs like Pretty Hurts, Jealous, Mine, No Angel, and even Haunted make a TON more sense. The hints of infidelity and insecurity carry over has full on themes to Lemonade, proving that this woman truly cares about her family, herself, her craft, and her storytelling. Also, shout out to Troy for his musicianship because these are some of the best album reactions I've ever seen. You don't just talk about the lyrics or her vocal runs; you take note of the production and instrumentation and all of the little things that make her songs such incredible pieces of art and all of the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. Those things tend to go unnoticed by the general public because it's all about what she's wearing, where she's going, and what she's doing. And her doing a surprise release of this album to make people really listen to a full body of work is exactly what you're doing.
