EARLY ACCESS: BYAMPOD Ep 70 - You're Gone & The Making of Marbles

New ep! This is the first of two you're going to be getting over the next week. In order to feel like part of the excitement around the new album, we're going to - hopefully - be doing a launch day special for An Hour Before It's Dark.

In this one, we unearth some very telling bits and pieces to do with the making of Marbles - an unusually stressful and frustrating process, apparently - dig up the original crowdfunding campaign plans, and talk about the excitement around the release of You're Gone.

I still like that live version!

Thanks, SM.

I think you're right. I've a number of mates who came back with Marbles.

I think the main success of Marbles was not to bring in new fans but to bring back lots of lapsed fans (like me) back into the fold. I know several fans from the 80s who got back into the band because of Marbles and the fan engagement that lead up to the album's release.

I dont recall Rothers being down on Marbles at the time - was VERY interesting to revisit those posts. My first reaction in the lead-up to marbles was based mainly on the weekend at Butlins. I think it would be fair to say that i generally dont like hearing things for the first time played live - ESPECIALLY with marillion that often takes weeks/months to grow on me. Neverland changed all that without a doubt. It was just catchy, melodic, joyous perfection.... to the point that when the album version was released i was disappointed that the Rothers guitar parts changed slightly and sounded all wrong!

Really interesting episode. You're really doing a great job of highlighting why the band entered a period of renaissance with Marbles and beyond. It's with Marbles that the band truly began to expand the musical "songwriting" beyond what had previously been mostly Steve Rothery. Steve Rothery is a genius, but integrating more input from H, Mark Kelly, etc. took the music to a whole new level.
