EARLY ACESS: BYAMPOD - ANORAKNOPHOBIA Part 2

In this episode of BYAMPOD, we get stuck into Anoraknophobia properly, taking a listen to our namesake track, as well the classic Quartz. But not before we've discussed Marillion's latest crowdfunding idea, and disagreed about whether the band meant 'anorak' in a disparaging way or not...

And also, I agree there are some tracks that are unnecessarily long. I've sometimes wondered whether they felt a need to make the album long because the punters had paid for it up front. A sort of 'They've paid £15, we better give them their monies worth' sort of thing. I could be barking up the wrong tree. Either way, I think it's a good 63 minute album that could have been a great 45 minute album.

I agree with everything this week. Quartz is far too long, actually on record I don't love it (because of the terrible middle and I dislike Rothers guitar line on it - heresy I know) but it's got a great energy live. I've never understood why it has the perfect end with the word 'stop', but actually just pointlessly carries on for another 30 seconds.

Indeed so!

In the light of Genesis' tour date cancellations due to Covid within the band (lets hope they're all OK), Marillion's Lightsavers idea seems really smart move.

That doesn't surprise really. Not because any of them are bad people, but because they're people. And they were young.

I understand, at least in the 80s, the band would call over enthusiastic fans "plectrums" in a derogative way in front of their faces. The word was code that the fans wouldn't understand but the band members could smerk at. It may have been a Fish thing?
