ANTHROPARION

Hello, y'all. Did you all see the fun I had yesterday with a bust pipe in my house? Why, what a horrible nightmare that was!

Anyhow, it has been a while since I shared any music with you. I know this isn't really what you're here for, but I know some of you like to know what I've been doing. So, this is my attempt at writing a true prog epic.

It's listed as one 30 minute-long song, but it's really a bunch of different songs that flow into one another, like one side of a concept album. It's the most shamelessly progressive thing I've done - but with elements of dance, Tangerine Dream, Mike Oldfield, Can... It even has a really wanky name, and sub-titles, and a concept, and everything. I wanted it to be as over-the-top and pretentious as possible...!

Look:

i)  Clockwork Soul

ii)  First Steps

iii)  Cutting The Strings

iv)  Chemical Wedding

v)  An Abomination

vi)  Every Life a Tragedy

I've no idea if this is any good. I just love doing it. I've been working on this for about a month, and I may yet change it further - I'm not sure if the first half is as strong as the last half. And I want to add some more audio clips in there. But here it is as it stands right now.

Trouble is... I can't play a note! I just move things around in Logic...!

Oh, you!

Absolutely love it. Put it on last night while lying in bed and initially thought it was a bit Trent Rose-ner/Atticus Spoff but it soon became more John Goujon-Jarre. It was actually a very evocative soundscape, bringing up images of desolate arctic wastelands and the infinite void of space. Took me back to the early ‘80s, listening to a tape (which I’ve never managed to track down since) in my Toshiba KT-S2 Cassette Player on a Sunday evening as my gran drove me back to boarding school after a weekend spent with her (I recall Chariots of Fire, Bladerunner and Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence among the tracks). Also hints of Vangelis which took me back to listening to Direct when I was in my late teens and reading Lovecraft in a dimly lit, joss stick smoke filled bedroom. Basically, shut up and take my money as they say.

Just on the second play-thru, really enjoying the vaguely Pink Floyd open, and the rolling Vangelis ending. xx

Somebody call Constellation Records! I want to see you touring with Godspeed You! Black Emperor when all this pandemic brouhaha is over. ;)

Chris Bell

It's very Vangelis, love it!

A piece *becoming* stronger as it goes on is not a bad situation.
