End of August Project Updates
Added 2025-08-25 12:29:44 +0000 UTCHey everyone!
We’ve been heads-down working through some tricky problems, and things are finally starting to click into place.
Overlay Progress:
The in-app overlay is now fully working from a functionality perspective. This has been one of the biggest hurdles, and I can’t overstate how good it feels to finally have it working properly!
We did hit a snag along the way—the way the app was packaged originally limited what we could do under the hood.
To unlock everything, I had to convert Winhanced to an unpackaged app, which ended up eating a lot of development time.
The good news? That work is now behind us, and the foundation is stronger than ever moving forward!
Looking Ahead
First we need to address an elphant in the room:
We will for the time being being dropping support for 2 things:
Firstly, in-app controller remapping: Our implementation was never to the par we wanted it to be, and hidhide was causing more issues then it was worth. Additional more and more games with anti-chat are cracking down on virtual controllers so drivers like Vigembus which our remapping used could potentially cause banning in games, so we are removing that functionality from our app.
we may look to reintroduce this functionality in the future. but in the next update that will not be there when the overlay is introduced.
Secondly, also for the time being we will be dropping support for intel based handhelds (but only when it comes to TDP management, and auto pilot, you can still use the library features of winhanced)
the reasoning for this, is Intel has been causing a lot of issues when it comes to getting autopilot off the ground. and due to the smaller user base of intel handhelds we had to make this hard decision so that app development doesn't grind to a halt.
As with controller remapping, we may look into intel support in the future as well. but only after we have a clear roadmap in place for how we can properly support that architecture within our app.
now with that out of the way we do have good news!
While the in-app overlay is working great, we’re also thinking about the future of Windows gaming; especially with the upcoming ROG Ally X and all the new platform features on the horizon.
To meet that future head-on, we’re also building an Xbox Game Bar widget version of our overlay. This will give you all the choice between our native in-app overlay or a seamless Game Bar integration for a more “built-in” Xbox feel.
What’s Next
I still don’t have a hard release date yet, but the finish line is finally in sight. If things keep moving at this pace, I’m hopeful we’ll have something ready for you all within the next couple of weeks.
In the meantime, here is an early look of the apps overlay working within the Xbox game bar!
(UI not final and mainly being used to test functionality)
The wait has been long (trust me, I feel it too), but this next update will be a huge step forward for Winhanced. Thanks for sticking with us! Your patience and excitement means the world.

Loving the progress. Overlays being back is going to be so good. Really loving that you've also implemented an Xbox Gamebar feature. This is looking like what I've been waiting for. Thank you.
