A 60% reliability means 60 in 100 launches are successful. It also means 40 in 100 launches fail. So it's a 0.4 probability of fail per launch. What are odds of 2 missiles failing? It's 0.4 x 0.4 = 0.16. It means that if a salvo of 2 missiles is launched, there's a (1-0.16 = 0.84) 84% chance of at least one missile reaching the target. A salvo of 3 missiles would result in a 93,6% chance of success.

Good brief. Thanks! Makes you wonder whether the number if presidential unit citations is going to go down due to fewer detections :-)

Superb as usual, cheers

Thanks for another excellent sub brief Jive!

I think your real name is Skip Tyler. As with all Russian doctrine, we'll overcome reliability issues with numerical superiority. Great brief that’s informative, educational, and reliable.

Nice job Aaron....A great brief.

Bark with this modification.

Aaron Amick

I don't know.

Aaron Amick

No.

18:30 What is the cushion-like thing in the center?

Andrew MacDougall

7:30 Bulava is "based" on Topol-M. What does this mean? Just the same design bureau? Does it share parts in common? Similar proportions?

Andrew MacDougall

@ 4:00 the Bark missile is the first "wholly indigenous production." What does this mean? Were they importing parts for their missiles from abroad?

Andrew MacDougall

They are very quiet... for now (2020). That will change by 2022.

Aaron Amick

Hey jive, how does the borei and borei A compare in quietness to other submarine classes?

Great job Jive! Seeing the scale Borei test platform made me think of the scale Virginia class models used by us. Modern submarine designs from all countries are so cool!
