R-39 Missile Program Test Schedule

37 Tests in 4 years is extremely expensive.  The failures of the R-39 program lead to the development of the R-30 Bulava that is featured in our next Sub Brief.

If you search "minuteman reentry vehicle" you can see a photo of a recovered Minuteman RV.

I have image of an actual recovered flown MIRV. That thing surely looks like it has gone through some hell, I can tell you.

Matus (Saturnax)

damn, i hoped you'll start your brief with "let's do something weird: read the fucking manual." :-)

Found and Recovered are two very different things. We found the Barringer Crater... we didn't recover it.

Aaron Amick

lol, good catch. I didn't see that right away.

Aaron Amick

But they're recoverable/stay intact? I find that hard to believe.

Andrew MacDougall

I earn my money with technical documentation. 12/28/80 is my new code for: "Hello? Development department? Important information is missing." Former code was 4-128. Guess why ;-)

Yeah it's crazy fast.

Aaron Amick

Don't they come in at like Mach 25?

Andrew MacDougall

Reentry Vehicle (Mass Shape)

Aaron Amick

Interesting. RVs (MIRVs?) are recoverable?

Andrew MacDougall

This looks kinda typical for development. I would say they seem to have gotten their stuff together towards the end of the schedule. Boy, they spent some rubles on it.
