I finally got around to watching this and wow it is hard. Even though I knew this was coming. But this also brings up a lot of interesting questions, particularly: what the hell is happening, exactly?
That being said, past the shock of all of it, I absolutely agree with you: this episode does a really good job of putting us in Rika's place, of what her life must feel like in the loops.
And as Rika said herself: it doesn't leave me a place or time to breathe. Feels like she, just like us, is too shocked to have the opportunity to think about all this and what it implies.

Something I find interesting is that even when new people go L5, they still get paranoid about a topic selected from the same old set of themes:
(1) Three Great Families "spiriting" people away
(2) Poisonous gas and/or demons from the swamp
(3) (Alien?) parasites / worms

Something that's implied that makes this episode even more horrifying. Rika says that she can't catch her breath and that this is never ending. Combine that with the start of each loop showing a random date in June implies that Rika came into the fragment(excluding Akasaka's L5 loop) the day of her being killed by someone

Also, Ryukishi mentioned in an interview that he had some fun deciding who would go L5 in this arc and that his thought was to target all of the dependable adults to add to the overall sense of helplessness (ooishi, akasaka, akane, kimiyoshi). He said he had initially really wanted to make Chie go L5 too but decided against it because the character was heavily based on a character in another series and thought it would be rude to the author of that series.

I'm a little dissapointed, because the L5 is depicted very exagerated here. It was nothing like this in the VN, it was more "rational" there, but that probably because we could'we see the mental degeneration through character's eyes

Not much to say here, but what an episode. The St. Lucia reveal was an interesting touch, especially considering how much Shion hated it in Minagoroshi. Otherwise, this is just such a brutal watch. Although I have to admit, the jumpcut from happy to brutually murdered Rika was such an incredible moment that I've been looking forward to your reaction to ever since you started watching. Your neck scratch in the discussion was a nice touch too lmao

Oh yes, I was waiting for your reaction to L5 Akasaka. Here is a "fun fact". What Akasaka said here at 14:39 - "I came to help you, Rika-chan" - is exactly the same line he said when he saved Rika from Okonogi in the final chapter of the Visual Novel. I remembered that because that part of your playthrough was uploaded at the same day this anime episode aired. Such a crazy coincidence.

This episode kinda marks the turning point of the series, really looking forward to seeing your theories develop over the next few episodes

Yep, okay, just as hard to watch the second time around.
