MONTHLY Q&A - December 2025

The start of the month means that it's time for another Monthly Q&A!

As usual, if you have any questions for me then please comment them below this post and I'll be sure to answer them over the coming days!

(Just a reminder that this is limited to one question per person per month. If you comment with multiple unrelated questions, then I will only answer your first question.)

Whilst I've played various different games over the years (mostly racing), Gran Turismo is really the only series that I've had a long-term attachment to. For the most part, if another game interests me - whether it's a Forza, NFS or F1 title - I'll try it out, but I never really become that invested in the franchise as a whole. Even in spite of its current state, GT really is the only series that has that effect on me. That said, if we're considering non-racing games, I've really gotten into the Yakuza / Like a Dragon series over the past few years. I'm not sure how familar you are with them, but they're mostly open-world beat 'em ups set in the underworld of Japan (aside from 7 & 8 which are turn-based RPGs). To be honest, I was mainly drawn to them for their story and side content, rather than the core gameplay, but I have grown to appreciate that too. As it stands they're pretty much the only non-racing games that I curently play. In case you're interested, my personal favourites are Yakuza 0, Yakuza 7 (Like a Dragon), and Lost Judgement (a spin-off title set in the same universe)

I'm sure this question has been asked before but, are there other game series' outside of Gran Turismo that you adore?

In concept I like the idea of it, but in Gran Turismo there has always been one fundamental issue - the cars don't get dirty. Okay, so that isn't strictly true. From GT5 onwards the cars do get dirty - but the moment you stop driving, all the dirt and stuff just disappears. If you drive your car continuously for hundreds of miles without a wash, you will also notice a sort of white gradient appear on the lower half. However this isn't relative to how dirty your car actually gets during gameplay (such as when driving off-road), and is instead applied linearly, purely based on the distance driven. Also this effect doesn't seem to appear in the menus, only when you're on track. It's a small thing, but always something that's annoyed me about these games. GT7's photo mode also has options to add brake dust and oil stains to your car, which don't appear during normal gameplay. It would've been cool to see this not only build up during the races, but then carry over beyond them, at which point you could wash your car to remove them. When it comes to the older games, all the car wash does is restore some shininess to the paint, which gradually dulls the more you drive the car. I think this is also true in GT7, but to be honest, I've always found it hard to tell the difference. I've also read that in some games, washing a car supposedly makes it slightly faster because there's less drag, but I've never tested this myself.

What is you honest opinion of the Car Wash feature in the Gran Turismo series?
