Call for questions: TURKEYS

Turkey time isn't only Thanksgiving. Turkey time is all the time. Because they are winged, wattled wonders. I'll next be interviewing an anthropologist who studies turkeys and their relationships to humans. What do you want to know about the gobbling galiform?

Deadline: Sunday, January 18 at 5pm PST

What about their looks are functional like for feeding and defense and what’s for attracting a mate? Like the bald head do the ladies like that or does it have another purpose?

GhoulNextDoor

how can one help increase the population in regions where they're native but not thriving? My example is the DFW metroplex. I know we have turkeys at the nature preserve I work at, but the estimated population is dangerously low, maybe 6-8 max!

Ranger France

I have heard that they have fantastic color vision & that they can even see ultraviolet. Is this true?! TELL ME MORE. Also they can see 270 degrees?! Bananas.

Dragon Warrior

Is it true they have to straighten their necks to drink? And if so, what is the evolutionary benefit to this adaptation? Also— if male and female turkeys have differently shaped feces… what does this mean for categorization, ie, species anatomy, chemistry, or reproduction? As someone whose high school mascot was a turkey… I have questions…
