A Progress and Coding Overhaul Update

Hoo boy! The past couple of days have been wild! I celebrated my boyfriend's birthday, went to MTG prerelease, and did some HUGE stuff for Zap and Andy!

Normally I'd upload this later, but there's a really bad snowstorm here and I dunno how long I got internet. Thankfully I don't need internet to code though!


Alright, first thing's first. The oldest part of Zap and Andy's code got a complete overhaul to accommodate the new puzzle.

The original version of the cherub's code was made over a year ago, back when I was still building the base for the game and learning the language it was being made in.

Needless to say, it had to go. The fact that replacing it made some fun new things possible is just icing on the cake. The new version is so much more efficient it's actually about 1/4th the size, which really hammered home how much better I've gotten at this over the last year.

The cherub moves faster and way more fluid now, and he hovers higher off the ground too. There was some minor cutscene rewrites needed to make them work right, but I think the results are absolutely worth it.

Some retouches were done to the statue puzzle, and as of now it's functional! It just has a few placeholder graphics until the appropriate animations can be drawn.

(The lit candles temporarily use the same fire from Andy's whiskey, for instance.)

The cherub plays a pretty big part in this, so fixing up his code was extremely important!

Once the graphics are added in for this, there's just one puzzle left, then the ending of the first major section of the game!

After that the story and gameplay experience some shakeups, so I can't wait to share those with you when we get to em.

While I'm at it, here's the touched up and extended Zap scene. It shows how our cherub friend got so balloony.

Demon soda is potent stuff.

Also, I didn't know where to fit it into the update, but I both overhauled the title screen buttons to make them easier to click on and redrew part of the UI.  Those are in the pile of things as well. :V

The updated cherub code means that we can do a lot more with him, like puzzle based transformations. That's very good, because some areas are gonna have Zap working alone, and variety will make things a lot more fun!


That's it for this update! I'm gonna spend the weekend starting up on the last puzzle and adding the remaining animations for the statue puzzle.
