In the novel, the reason why Jin ZiXuan is so opposed to the marriage with Jiang YanLi is that she is described as having no special cultivation skills and only average looks, while he is one of the best-skilled and most handsome cultivators in the cultivation world (the only ones higher than him from the young generation are Lan XiChen, Lan WangJi, and Wei WuXian at the moment), and if their mothers weren't best friends, Jiang YanLi would never have the chance for such a good marriage. He thinks he's too good for her and hates being forced into marriage. Especially one he believes she does not deserve and is given solely because she is from a famous family.
They were getting close in the live action show (so it appears that they could eventually be happy together, and Jin ZiXuan's anger about it sort of comes out of nowhere), but in the novel, Jian YanLi wasn't studying with them at the Cloud Racesses, and despite knowing each other since they were small children, Jin ZiXuan never bothered to get to know her, so the cancellation of their engagement makes sense.

Just a little Chinese cultural note. There's a god named Tu'er Shen (the Rabbit God) in Chinese mythology who manages love and sex between men, so rabbits are often used as a symbol of queerness. There are definitely different scenes with rabbits in the novel than in the live action show, but bunnies are still there and are one of the most iconic symbols of their story, relationship, and especially a part of Lan WangJi's character (as he is the one who is taking care of them in the Cloud Racesses, despite pets being forbidden there, because he was gifted them by Wei WuXian in the novel).
(I put this comment under a different video than I wanted; that's why I deleted it and posted it again here. Because, while rabbits appeared in the previous episode as well, the rabbit on the lantern that Wei WuXian made for Lan WangJi is more significant for the symbol's meaning.)
