That tax-thing seems like bs or fans making wild conjecture from some interview joke. Greg has been on lots of shows with Jimmy, including post tax-scandal... but Jimmy famously tours like a lunatic and host half a dozen shows, so is probably simply too busy to do a full season of TM. Or maybe he figured he didn't want to, either because he doesn't need it for career reasons, or for similar reasons as David Mitchell. I.e. people think he's a pretty clever guy, so why risk coming across otherwise :p

He’s an absolute delight.

2024-07-18 01:50:35 +0000 UTCI'd never heard how Greg feels about it before but I can totally understand why but for me it's not even about the money. That's such an anti-social decision to make. To me it's almost like deciding stop signs don't apply to you. You're guaranteed to cause an accident and you could easily die or kill someone else. It's not a decision a healthy person with a sound mind would ever make. I know that analogy is a bit of a stretch I really think it's reductio ad absurdum the same sort of decision. PS: For the record, I am no paragon of morality, I have flaws and have done things I'm ashamed of, but I still find some decisions hard to empathize with, for the reasons above. I also want to to acknowledge people can grow and change and wouldn't be inclined to hold a grudge against Jimmy... I am quick to believe the best of folks sometimes even in the face of contrary evidence.

Jimmy Carr was only paying 1% tax on his £3.3 million/year income, and was one of a bunch of British celebrities doing the same. Two of the musicians from Take That, cited in Sarah Pascoe's season, owed £20 million in taxes that they'd tried to get around. The backlash in the UK was down to recognizing how much wasn't paid into public services like health care by those who were in the most comfortable position to pay a fair share and still be rich.
