Could share a ton of little tidbits about this album, but I'll just give one about Smile and Childhood. Smile was originally a Charlie Chaplain song, just the instrumental composition, for one of his films. Nat King Cole performed the original lyrics to it. It's been covered a lot over time but MJs just has a certain weight to it given what he went through and during this time of his life especially. Earlier though, when you said Childhood seemed like a musical theatre song...MJ studied theatre in many regards just like he did other genres/composers/dancers/etc. One of his biggest dance inspirations was Bob Fosse - check out some of the choreography in Chicago and the overall vibe of that musical and then watch Smooth Criminal again😉 But his musical theatre side definitely comes out in Childhood, love that you picked that up from it. It's such a beautiful song and his vocals feels so controlled yet powerful, I almost imagine him performing that in a theatre with musical stage sets and everything around him, he really transports you to that space with that song. Can't wait for you to watch the music videos from this album and then the tour! Many more feels to come🥲

Its emotional because it drives it home, hes no longer with us. What a talent we lost. Such a unique human being, madonna's 5 minutes speech at the 2010 BET Awards said it perfectly. Her monologue was beautiful.

Even though Mariah Carey did not cover, you are not alone but it might her reminding you it her song ‘bye bye’ the chords and percussion are similar

While I absolutely love Off the Wall, Thriller, and BAD, History to me is Michael at his best. I loved the balance he had with this album. He had the anger side but balanced it with this delicate softness. It was IMO his most mature album... this was Michael the man speaking (cursing and all). Again Jacob loved your honest review!

Stranger In Moscow & Earth Song are the best from this album. I also love a few others. But it's a dark album for MJ.

Michael Jackson owned the Beatles catalogue. It was one of the main reasons why he became a target to the media he owned a part of Sony and he fell out with Paul McCartney because he bought the catalogue its a funny and sad story you should look into it.
