REACTSMAS DAY 6: Madonna's DEBUT ALBUM!

Comments

I just rewatched my #1s reaction and I forgot how many I liked! 😂

Jacob Correia

Thank you for this comment btw!! I forgot to respond!

I was really into Madonna's earlier stuff and some of the 90s stuff, then kind of went off her. However, I have two friends who LOVE Madonna and they get murder in their eyes whenever I bag her lol So yea, Madonna fans can be very bitchy haha True Blue and Like A Prayer (her 2nd and 3rd) are my fave albums of hers.

And BTW I appreciate the lyrics to Lucky Star as being deep lyrics. It's in reality like powerful poetry. It uses double entendres and makes insightful points. It is a metaphor comparing love to the stars in the firnanent, and is a nod to the expression (born under a lucky star. Her mother's name was Madonna and the music video features Madonna's navel.) You may be my lucky star, but I'm the luckiest by far is rather profound.

You are allowed to have your narrow opinions. 🤣

Now about your reaction. I see that you're having a hard time with the lenght of the songs, but keep in mind that that was kind of the pattern those days, that was the regular length of most album songs. IMO you shouldn't take as an offense the TikTok influence on your perception of time - as someone who lived both periods and saw the social media take over from day one, I sincerely think they've changed people's perceptions about many things, including time span. But so what? It is what it is - if I may think that your generation's brains have been molded to prefer shorter songs then I have to assume that my own brain was molded to prefer - or at least find it normal the longer ones. Whatever our tastes come from, we can agree to disagree sometimes. About the music, I'm glad that you vibed a little more than in the first video, because trust me, it only gets better. Lyric-wise, the first two albums are the weakest, imo. If you're a sucker for lyrics, I think you will really get into hers from the 4th album on. That's Like a Prayer, her first masterpiece. But also, it's ok if you prefer the more deep and intricate lyrics, but that doesn't mean one doesn't need a lot of talent to write the simple ones. You also have to be good to write simple lyrics that can touch so many peoples hearts and minds - it's a talent in itself. As a fan for 30+ years, I don't want to write you off for being honest in your opinions, instead I'm keen to see if she'll win you over along the journey. And she's got such a diverse body of work that I'm sure there's things for your taste there, and hopefully you'll recognize the excellence along the way. Count on me for the friendly fan imput 😉

Hey Jacob, nice reaction! I'm sorry you're getting h*te for your last video. People tend to take it personally and think they can be rude only becaise they're behind a keyboard - they wouldn't say it to your face, at leat not in the same way. I'm glad you're trying not to take it personally.

Madonna’s music really gets better with the like a virgin album. Then, in my opinion, it really shines in the early/mid 90s up until Ray of light. Everything after ray of light is super experimental & confessions on the dance floor is the only Madonna album I really enjoy after ray of light

Heather

As a Madonna stan in my opinion her debut album is not even in the top 10 best Madonna albums for me but I still like it. And about what you said about Everybody yes it is on my playlist because not everything has to be deep sometimes you just want to dance.

S

BTW you'll like her voice more in the Virgin Tour from Detroit

Daniel LaPlume

Your feelings are totally valid because I don’t really like her music either. She has some great songs but I think people that were there in the time were blinded by her boldness and activism while me and you were not there experiencing her first hand and are simply hearing her music for the first time and we don’t find it that groundbreaking. Taste is subjective and idk why they’re so mad at you. Her ray of light album is really good though. Madonnas #1’s are definitely not her best music imo. She’s got better music

James

As I recall, you did like several of her singles. Madonna is an overachieving underdog. People that say she us a Queen are misunderstanding
