Hey folks! Exciting things happening with development of Beast Planet. I've finally got my hands on the first playable build of the game. Well, there's not a lot you can do yet, but we've established many foundations of the design including basic movement, camera behavior, pixel perfect solutions for the desired resolution, and collision system. The short clip demonstrates the screen size/resolution, which is 384x216px. Notice the subtle depth effect by allowing the player to slightly walk behind walls and objects.
Eager now to get some enemies in there, I've about completed a meat man sprite. This is one of the few foes you can take on without your mech, but will still pose a challenge in numbers. The current shooting mechanic is generic and will likely be tuned for a more distinctive feel. I want the combat to be more like survival horror in the sense that you have to use strategy and be careful with resources, rather than mindless shooting. So, the rapid fire probably won't work. Thinking about changing it to some kind of shotgun that works more like melee with limited range and invisible bullets.
Also, want to show off some more mech animations. All the movement animations are complete and I'm currently working on a slash attack, which I've done the left and right facing versions so far. Trick is, instead of reflecting the sprite I'm making each direction unique with the shield and sword realistically staying in the same hand. Looks like we'll have this thing in operation sooner than expected!
