Devlog - 6

Okay, massive gamedev dump. The new idea is called Beast Planet. This comes from a fictional world that has been rolling around my head for 2 decades now. Several iterations of this universe have manifested over the years in the form of literature, sketches, comic books, and even contrived graphic design projects from my college days. However, I've done very little representation of BP in my current pixel art. So, what's it about? BP is a post apocalyptic science fiction where a once beautiful Earth planet is mutated into a visceral partially alive landscape, along with the inhabitants who are transformed into grotesque monsters. A smattering of surviving humans live in orbital colonies, struggling to survive above a hostile world with its resources guarded by mutant beasts. You are a Beast Hunter, tasked with slaying the monsters for their valuable raw materials. Most importantly, you are after Adrix, rare crystal orbs that are only found inside the bodies of the monsters. When consumed, Adrix causes hallucinations that reveal the true memories of the people the monsters used to be. Through these memories, the survivors hope to find answers to what caused the cataclysm, so they may learn how to reverse the mutation and restore the planet.

While I've played in this universe several times through my creative career, I feel I've never done the fiction justice with a complete product. Now, as I return my imagination back to this provocative world, I realize a video game is the perfect medium for this story.  

Translating into gameplay, we are looking at a semi-open world game, where you are only limited by resources and equipment. Action will be real-time and most combat will take place in your mech. You are free to explore on foot, but most monsters will maul you if you try to take them on. Some structure will be provided through jobs you can take at the hunter's guild. Ultimately, you must defeat all the major boss character's to clear the game, but how, and when will be up to the player. The ultimate feat will be to locate and slay all monsters types in the game. Gotta catch 'em all!  

Taking inspiration from greats like BOTW, Monster Hunter, Pokemon, and Fallout, we hope to synthesize a combination of the best elements into an original experience. Very exciting stuff. Let's see where it goes.
