More progress on the the AVI project this week. Starting to pixel some enemy concepts, but haven't implemented any yet. We have a rough working concept of the player controller with most of the basic mechanics already implemented. Still needs some tuning, but and excellent initial concept to start building from. Next we need to test some enemies and basic level design ideas to get a better sense of how we want the gameplay to feel, then we can best refine the controls and physics. Working out some nifty hover mechanics we would like to emphasize. The camera system is also a bit rough yet. It may not look like much, but it's already a huge step to have smooth player control and complete animations. Currently, working on adding a climbing mechanic so we can have ladders and other climbing surfaces.
Made a little more progress on the first environment by adding another rocky background layer, and building concept. The game will start in a poor village in the middle of a barren wasteland.
Quickly filling out the sketch file. Still the best way to plan any creative idea is with a real pen and paper.
