This rugged moon always keeps the same face turned toward Neptune. Orbiting in retrograde, it circles the planet in the opposite direction the planet rotates. in about 3.5 billion years. Triton will succumb to Neptune’s gravity, breaking up into a ring system. Voyager 2 is the only human spacecraft to have flown by Triton in 1989. There are no other missions planned for the foreseeable future.
