Thyrian Defenders - 18

Yo squad! Got some TD updates for you. Above is the current state of the second set of cells in the intro scene. Still working on the large cell with the Titan. I think I got the perspective I want, but the lighting will likely need to be modified when I contextualize the hangar space more. Some details on the gauges are currently omitted, as they will be added in when I animate. Hope I can finish this scene soon. It's been slow going on the story scenes since they are about the last priority in the dev process. Very important to the presentation in the end, but game design, and gameplay content always take precedent.

Speaking of which, we are hard at work creating the new Hyperspace level. I created several new units for the level, and this week I created new portal effects. In Hyperspace themed levels most of the enemies spawn from portals that can appear anywhere on the screen. The  previous graphics we had were just white circles that expand and collapse. The white color was very loud on the dark backgrounds and the portals themselves didn't clearly read as portals. So here's the new concept.


They come in 3 different sizes, this being the largest. They also have unique colors depending on what hyperspace level they're in. I came up with a pretty simple technique to create this spiraling vortex motion. Will have to share the trick in a tutorial at some point, along with countless other techniques I've learned through this gamedev process.
