Decided to compile the work we've been doing into a video demonstration to better illustrate it.
Fluids have had a big rework. They can now be mixed to create different combinations. Meaning you can water down your fuel to try to save money, at the cost of your truck's health.
Main reason for taking the time to add this functionality is because players like to do dumb stuff, so why not let them have their fun. This was a little tricky to get all the interactions working just right, but I feel we've got there in the end. Add oil into the fuel tank and the emissions will get worse. Water into the engine oil and lack of lubrication will mean increased wear and even seizure. Add oil into the water tank and you're going to have a bad time with visibility.
It's set up to be able to add new fluids down the line. So stuff like diesel isn't off the table.
Gameplay-wise this also opens up some good situations. We may add long difficult route where there are abandoned petrol stations that contain contaminated fuel. Meaning you'll want to bring your own or try filtering the fuel you can get along the route.
There's a bonus gameplay segment at the end of the video. The truck's transmission is in a bad shape, so you can hear me grinding the gears. There's also water in the fuel, so the engine is misfiring. I had an oil leak earlier and lost a lot of oil, so the engine isn't lubricated enough and is overheating. These are just some of the many challenges you'll want to overcome in the early stages of the game. Just make sure you get wealthy enough that you'll never have to deal with driving such a lemon again.
Thanks,
Greg
