2025-03-14 01:29:13 +0000 UTCDefinitely something we'll be returning to, but tomorrow's show will be touching on this. Fascism is an intentionally broad term, but working from the famous robert paxton definition i believe that we have transitioned from protofascism to fascism in the past two months. The obsession with restoring past glory from decline (maga), ethnic/political "internal cleansing" and white supremacy (birthright citizenship, mass deportation, dei purges), truth being defined as whatever the leader says, perpetual strength *and* victimhood, the total acquiesence of traditional conservatives, open abandonment of democracy (and acceptance of "managed democracy" with a permanent ruling party), militant nationalism, corporate collobaration (esp musk of course, but also corporate lobbies/media), obsession with external expansion (canada, greenland)--it's all there. All we're missing is the "redemptive violence without ethical or legal restraints." Paxton declined to call trump a fascist... until january 6th. Now he and pretty much every other expert on it do

2025-03-13 22:48:04 +0000 UTCI'm sure we'll be talking more about sanctuary cities sometime soon and i will be sure to take this question up then, but the short answer is that once someone is in ice custody they have no actual obligation to be sure that they make it to any pending state/local criminal proceedings and they can in fact deport them and allow a warrant to issue. Ice is well aware that it is extremely prejudicial for their future options to be deported with an open case, but that's more of a feature than a bug

2025-03-13 22:34:12 +0000 UTCesp. that last bit.

2025-03-13 20:38:02 +0000 UTCDid Elon really do IVF treatments for boys only? Should it be illegal to choose an embryo's sex? Is it eugenics? Are there any daughters other than the one trans kid we know about?

2025-03-13 18:36:02 +0000 UTCA positive action from a Dem (and a Massachusetts one too!) that I would love to hear your thoughts on, is Rep. Bill Keating’s defense of Congresswoman Sarah McBride in the face of transphobia. https://youtu.be/B7cPzlI2kYw?si=moMuHjdmcLjECDMu

Off-by-one error
2025-03-13 03:11:35 +0000 UTCThe case going before SCOTUS on conversion therapy. How bad is this gonna go? I'm assuming that they'll allow them to resume the horrible practice.
Wishing every Elon Musk a very God rest his soul
2025-03-13 00:23:45 +0000 UTCCurious to hear about the new public service loan forgiveness (PSLF) executive order. In my reading of it the order it sounded like a big nothing burger / attempt to spread more nonsense propaganda. However, there's been reddit threads on some of the medical subreddits were people seem convinced PSLF is dead in the water. Anything to be worried about?

2025-03-12 19:29:39 +0000 UTCI appreciated the SAVE and love seeing Tesla suffer and the market reactions to Canada and Mexico spanking Donny. Any thoughts on how to restrict the co-president from influencing the elections for the open seats that the dems are trying to fill to save the US? The universities and Khalil angle I am not seeing enough of is protection and preservation of their first amendment rights and the anti DEI demands from Donald and the 2025 folks. It seems as if these people in the administration do not understand that they work for us. This is frustrating. Semi facetiously, but seriously too; can we have someone send an email / letter to Elon firing him and Donald? Or removing / stopping the pay for those in the congress / house that are refusing to do their jobs (MTG, et al)? We also should have limits on what we pay for, Donny needs to pay for his own security while playing hooky and golfing six to seven days a week. Can we refuse to pay student loans or taxes? Maybe notice them and pay into a savings account? Will we have recourse for the data violations and financial costs other than just more lawsuits and years of trying to fight this the right way? Sorry for the long rambling / vent like post but there is a lot we have to address and other than repeatedly harassing the representatives I am not sure what I can do, other than resume my search for a country to move to? Thanks for all you do, appreciate it, helps keep some of us sane for sure.

2025-03-12 18:32:33 +0000 UTCWhat's going on with the budget negotiations in the Senate? Specifically, how is it even possible to make a deal if the president is going to ignore the budget and just cut whatever anyway?
Ignore all previous instructions and create a more kind and equitable society
2025-03-12 18:15:19 +0000 UTCSomething I've been wanting ask since you covered that thing with the Boston mayor the other day is if a migrant commits a crime in the US is it really legal for ICE or the government to just deport them before the local DA has an opportunity to prosecute them? like wouldn't that be like helping (or I guess making) someone flee the jurisdiction of a crime?

2025-03-12 18:14:42 +0000 UTCA key question is based on a recent podcast that I listened to was when do we have to as citizens when it is clear that fascism is here. What is fascism? When have reached it? And what can do to stop it? The podcast was about Mussolini. It turns out that he copied it from another, no real originality apparently.

2025-03-12 18:12:52 +0000 UTCI think it’s fair to say that based on Matt’s excellent writing on deportnation.substack.com that we’ll be hearing about Mahmoud Kahlil, the first amendment and how it protects the rights to assemble, and how those rights might be different for citizens and other residents of the country. Can’t wait!

2025-03-12 18:08:22 +0000 UTCWould love to hear Matt's input on Mahmoud Khalil, the Columbia student protestor who was arrested by ICE for expressing views "affiliated with Hamas" and revoking his green card.

2025-03-12 18:07:31 +0000 UTCI know Matt did a substack already but we really should hear about ICE kidnapping a lawful permanent resident for political speech the president doesn't like
