Executive director Dr. Lindsay Owens joins to discuss–among many other things–what we talk about when we talk about “the economy,” the DOGE crisis, the true causes of inflation, and what the loss of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau means for us all.

Not only do I agree with both comments, it’s obvious that much “the economy” as discussed in the media is based on very old and flawed theories. Almost as if the government hasn’t chosen winners & losers in “the free market” since…say, trying to give PanAm monopoly for international flights? I mean, that’s in the movie about Howard Hughes. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out it’s not just the speculative stock market or interest rates that don’t actually benefit most of us directly. Say, what would happen if anyone would ask the friggin sellers to stop raising prices and then actually lower prices? Companies can’t afford to pay a living wage but they never say they can’t afford the C-Suite salaries that are so out of touch with their workers’ wages and the cost of living like a human not an artistocrat!?!?

2025-03-10 23:52:09 +0000 UTCI know its important but I always get frustrated when we have to talk about if Trump is good or bad for the economy, because if that's your reason for voting or not voting for him you're a piece of shit. Like if someone says "I voted for trump because I thought he'd be good for the economy" what they're basically admitting is "I'm willing risk the lives of various minorities for the sake of ensuring my own economic security". If a person is ok with making that trade they're a piece of shit and I'm resentful of the fact we need to go to the trouble to convince them they were duped.

I did a deep dive into the DoJ's lawsuit against RealPage as a summer associate last summer, and let me tell you... "Eye-popping" is an understatement. The software is egregious, but the way they piggy back on the algorithm and use people to strong-arm landlords is the part that really takes the cake. It's one of the most economically predatory systems I've ever seen.
