Boston Mayor Wu Absolutely Demolishes House Republicans

OA1134 - Mere hours after a literal pat on the back from Donald Trump on live TV, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts delivered a 5-4 decision against him in the emergency litigation over Trump’s unconstitutional efforts to eliminate foreign aid funding. How much of a win was this really, and why did Samuel Alito spend eight pages in dissent pretending to be “stunned” by the majority’s radical assertion that the federal government should pay out debts incurred by valid acts of Congress? We then turn to a less-noticed recent Supreme Court decision with concerning implications for the future of civil rights litigation before appreciating recent Congressional wins: blue city mayors schooling the House Oversight Committee without ever giving up even a  single point in six hours, and Senate Democrats taking a meaningful united stand for trans lives.

I don't understand the point you're making here but it could be an ADHD thing of not being able to hold all the elements long enough in RAM to connect the dots

Not to support Gavin Newsom or his ridiculous choice of Charlie Kirk as a guest, but take a closer look at what he said. He said it was "deeply unfair" for transgender athletes to compete in women's sports, but that trans people had suffered so much in other ways that he allowed it anyway. Fox News picked up on the part where he allowed trans participation in women's sports and rallied its followers against him. Only Fox seems to have the expanded quote for some reason: "It’s deeply unfair," Newsom said of transgender athletes competing with girls. "There's also a humility and a grace. … These poor people are more likely to commit suicide, have anxiety and depression. And the way that people talk down to vulnerable communities is an issue that I have a hard time with as well. "So, both things I can hold in my hand. How can we address this issue with the kind of decency that I think, you know, is inherent in you but not always expressed on the issue?" He could have just said that the current preferred sports criteria is to bar anyone who has gone through male puberty from women's sports.

Thank you Thomas, for calling out Gavin Newsome. That anti-trans bull was despicable. I also never quite trusted him, but he always seemed to be saying the right things. Now that he's shown his true colors - opportunistic, I know that my distrust is warranted. And also thank you Matt, for the "trans rights are not a footnote" comment.

Matt, thank you for your “trans people, your lives are not a footnote”. Normally I’m pretty solid, but hearing you say that made me cry this morning, in both a good way and in that my body felt how much more of a talking point my/our existence has become in recent weeks.

Damn. Newsome is doing a Guilfoyle and just saying whatever for power.

Mayor Wu's Rhapsody in Blue is exactly what I needed today.

When will people accept and embrace their side may be in fact, on the dark side? Even if they didn’t think they’d be building an evil empire or embolden Darth Vader, what will it take for the Jedi to decide to remove the Sith from power? Why is SCOTUS moving towards absolving the Government from any & all obligations, particularly fucking contracts and treaties? Jeebus. I’m so pissed these kookooforcocoapuffs arguments are entertained seriously in the first friggin place.

Also, I’d say we’re far past king and sliding into emperor, and empire expansion territory. Or just the evil of the emperor from Star Wars. Either one.

I can’t wait to hear someone dig into why TX in the Bush era was fine storing nuclear waste on “fertile oil fields” (NRC case this past week) and why they refused TX participation in proceedings. Nobody’s gonna bring that up until conspiracy theorists go there, or maybe I watched too many Michael Moore movies. The arguments were good.

am listening to the audiobook and reading the graphic novel version of timothy snyder's 'on tyranny'. 10/10 can recommend.

I remain suspicious of all billionaires, but Pritzker is one of the few Dems showing leadership on trans rights and Dem priorities overall.

Oh hi Thomas, thank you for the Bestest Subscriber Ever award, I won't forget it.
