There was an action item that I felt was really good: if you see something you think might be ICE, call your local rapid response network (like SIREN in LA) rather than just posting on social. The article says the Tenth circuit ruled against them last year, but Oklahoma is currently still operating under that law, and I'm not seeing anything about a stay. What's going on with this one?

It's ostensibly aimed at children's care, which is horrific and cruel and evil enough on its own to make me want to scream. But there's also a lot of stuff that seems like it could affect adults. For example, Section 3(a)(i) says that agencies "shall rescind or amend all policies that rely on WPATH guidance". WPATH standards of care are the most common standard followed by healthcare providers for trans people of all ages-- things like getting hormone referrals or getting insurance to cover electrolysis treatment or getting medical approval for gender-affirming medical procedures. They're god-awful and gatekeep-y and have a long, sexist history, but they're also the most common framework trans people have to work with, and now anything that touches WPATH can't touch government agencies. Is this gonna fuck over trans adults in addition to trans kids, or am I just being paranoid?

My understanding is that people held at Gitmo are difficult to ensure get due process or their civil rights protected. Surely there is a professional ethics thing we can do to provide some consequences to the lawyers who advance truly bad faith arguments. I'm thinking specifically in the context of the birthright citizenship EO, where the judge who blocked it called out the lawyers who wrote it for their lack of understanding of the 14th amendment. Also in the context of the BS going on in the Minnesota House where republicans tried to seize power under a legal opinion that they had a quorum consisting of 67 members when they need 68. Like seriously, it must be dis-barrable to argue that 67 is greater than 68. Sorry for the rant, I'm just tired of the BS.
