Three years ago, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot on the set of Alec Baldwin's film, Rust. Alec Baldwin (in addition to armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed) was subsequently criminally charged with involuntary manslaughter. Recently, Baldwin's counsel brought a motion for dismissal and sanctions, and after a shocking day in court, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer dismissed the case with prejudice. Matt and Thomas walk through the events of that hearing and try to figure out what in the world the prosecutors were thinking.

LOL at the idea the STATE is the only part of the location of the evidence that matters. As long as it stays somewhere in the state then there's no duty to collect evidence.

2024-09-06 13:24:31 +0000 UTCAn underrated skill for lawyers: knowing when to stop talking. Like when a judge tells you repeatedly there's no need for your testimony. Or when things have already gone as well as you could have hoped and there's nothing left to say. Still, passing on closing is some king s***.

2024-09-02 16:25:27 +0000 UTCYeah sending people to US prisons already doesn’t really doesn’t really do anything to rehabilitate people, but locking someone up for killing someone by accident seems especially pointless. Like that old man Matt mentioned, I’d be OK saying he should never get to drive again, but sending him to jail just seems like a cruel waste of time.
