2024-04-16 00:43:44 +0000 UTC“They pass” is (unfortunately) not how constitutional amendments work. In my opinion I don’t think we’ll ever amend the constitution again. Here’s what’s required: An amendment is proposed by a *⅔* majority of *both houses* of Congress and then must be ratified by *¾* (38) state legislatures. The alternative is that ⅔ of the states can request one which then needs the same ¾ ratification. I can’t possibly imagine a world where any of the items in asterisks are met, let alone all of them.

2024-04-16 00:13:15 +0000 UTCIs there anywhere we can suggest crossover episodes? I would love to see a crossover between Opening Arguments and the Bravo Docket. They are two lawyers who cover legal issues related to reality TV stars

2024-04-12 17:12:16 +0000 UTCMy husband mentiined a fun thought experiment. If Dems get control of the house, senate, and presidency, he suggests we annul Trump’s presidency, and subsequently his supreme court picks and their horrible rulings. Then, after all the mess that action causes, they write and pass a constitutional ammendment that the same action cannot be undertaken again. Thoughts?

2024-04-12 16:10:10 +0000 UTCWhat is happening with John Eastman? And the crumbly sentencing. Would love to get Matt and Casey’s take

2024-04-11 18:59:22 +0000 UTCFor me, this is it. I'm feeling a bit confused over what's going on with this and can't find a clear summary of where it stands.

2024-04-11 14:53:16 +0000 UTCArizona has a really old abortion ban law. What is that all about? Abortion wasn't controversial that long ago... Or so I thought?

2024-04-11 06:19:05 +0000 UTCThey choose a selection of the responses for the Friday episodes. For instance, last week they covered Jack Smith v. Aileen Cannon (among other topics), which was the top two responses to last week's topic-request post.

2024-04-11 03:00:57 +0000 UTCApropos of the judge Cannon stuff, given that decisions after jury empanelment that lead to acquittals are effectively unreviewable, how are judges kept in line? Has it just been on the honor system until now?

2024-04-11 01:44:48 +0000 UTCMinnesota Timberwolves sale. Seems like the old owner might have just refused the final payment to complete the sale and now is blaming the minority owners and trying to call the whole thing off. Seems pretty illegal.

2024-04-11 01:01:11 +0000 UTCActually, it's something that can be built into the agreement that determines the lockup period. But they can be sued by the shareholders. See Lee v. Pincus, and the other Zynga suits: https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKCN0J11XA/

2024-04-11 00:12:40 +0000 UTCThis is kind of a crazy request, might be better for a deep dive. I see billboards all the time in West Virginia for class action lawsuit alleging injuries from Covid 19. Is this a trump-quality law suit? What do real cases against drug-makers look like?

2024-04-11 00:05:11 +0000 UTCThe 5th Circuit overturned a Trump-appointed judge who sent a lawsuit over CFPB's credit card fee cap to the DC circuit. So the suit should come back to the Northern District of Texas, but DC looks like it might not send the case back? Who wins here? 2024-04-10 23:58:50 +0000 UTCJudge Merchan released the questionnaire for jury selection for Trump's hush money trial. We know it will be difficult to find an impartial jury for Trump. I'd be curious to know what you think of Judge Merchan's attempt to do that and how effective you think the questionnaire might be. Here's the questionnaire link: https://www.nycourts.gov/LegacyPDFS/press/PDFs/Letter-re-jury-selection-4-8-24.pdf

2024-04-10 23:55:08 +0000 UTCWhere are you doing these? I haven't heard any on the pod... I guess I'll post again my request for a rundown of the legal options if the Truth Social Board lets Trumps stocks out of jail early, and he dumps them. There were legal cases against the Zynga Board for much less than this.

2024-04-10 23:55:04 +0000 UTCAlso I recently read a rolling stone article about AOC leading the fight against deepfake porn. Would be an interesting topic for either a Friday or a deep dive. A horrifying and fascinating emerging issue.
