2023-09-25 20:37:53 +0000 UTCFrom Judd Legum’s “Popular Information” today: Despite the prodigious evidence of criminal conduct presented in the indictment, Schumer is correct that Bob Menendez and the other defendants have a "right to due process and a fair trial." Menendez also has a right to the legal presumption of innocence. But, back in 2017, Schumer called on Sen Al Franken to resign immediately after unproven allegations against him, urging not to wait for the "due process" of an Ethics Committee investigation: “Senator Franken should resign. I consider Senator Franken a dear friend and greatly respect his accomplishments, but he has a higher obligation to his constituents and the Senate, and he should step down immediately.” What an insult to, IMO, one of the greatest and most effective and caring Senators of my lifetime. Schumer (and especially Gillibrand) should be ashamed of their two-faced politically motivated actions to dealing with alleged misconduct in the Senate. Franken could easily been the best President this country has ever had by now, without the party’s uncalled-for interference.
