OA798: Mugshotpalooza: And Trump Makes 19!

Today is a good day. Liz and Andrew enjoy the string of losses dealt to the Trump criminal enterprise in Fulton County, Georgia and then follow that up with some listener questions!

If you wonder why it matters whether Mark Meadows can remove the case to federal court, this show is for you! If you're curious as to why some defendants want a speedy trial while others (*cough* Donald Trump) want to wait a decade, this show is for you!

And if you just want to kick back and enjoy the criminal justice system at work, this show is definitely for you.

In the Patreon bonus, Andrew and Liz break down the law of severance and discuss whether Trump will be able to get out from his 18 cronies.

This is a paid post on Patreon.

It is probably just a computer running the recording software for whatever camera system they have. It is a server but it should just need admin access to the camera application to delete the recordings. That would be in the security guy's wheelhouse. Application admin access & OS admin access is a nuance too fine for most non-technical reporting.

Robert (on Patrion) Mortimer

Other odd thought: I find it hard to believe that the employee who REALLY had access to the server is the actual person in charge of security. I managed a couple of servers before I retired, and what's needed is a computer nerd keyboard wizard, but not likely department heads.

Ok. Kinda petty, but how is it not "lying to the govt" to give incorrect weight in your booking info? If you can be charged for giving incorrect information to the FBI or IRS why not DOJ? (is the difference that it's Georgia state, not a federal DOJ office doing the booking?) I suspect the incorrect information is another delay tactic? Ie an attempt to distract the prosecutors with a side issue?

Liz, how does your mother pronounce "amicus"? My grandmother was a Latin teacher and we were taught "AMI-cus," but hers may have been Church Latin; she was raised Catholic. Is legal Latin invariably "a-MEE-cus"?

Ann Sharp

I’d be fine with him having secret service protection in prison, it’d be cheaper than what it costs now with him moving all around. I don’t think there’s any scenario where he goes in gen pop, give him his own little wing, secret service protects it and he can watch tv all day, but no cell phones or other violations of the prison rules.

Tim Whatley

Ok this is going to be an unpopular idea, but... Maybe one way of dealing with the issue of jailing an ex president is to pass a law/amendment to the constitution that removes secret service protection from any protectee who becomes a felon after leaving office.

Given his height/weight ratio, isn't it more of a hippo violation?

David in Brooklyn

Sharing the mug shot is a hippa [sic] violation. (See blue checkmark Twitter/X law)

John Butler

Federal enclave, anyone? He slept through all of the basics. Oh, for the ability to attain such heights as an incompetent blob while failing upward.

Yolanda Rowe

Is it standard practice to allow people to self report height and weight to the jail? Doesn’t seem like it would be or you would have a bunch of 1’ tall and 20 pound leprechauns getting processed. That was what I really wanted out of this (his real height and weight), because I expect Fani Willis has one month left on the case before the Georgia Republicans use that law they passed to replace her with Bocephus J. Tiddlywinks, FSW, who will promptly drop the case. Nothing is going to come out of this case, because it won’t be permitted to.
