My problem with "D" is it doesn't really answer the question of whether there was a contract.
I'm probably overthinking it but I'm going with "C". A contract was never formed, however the student started good faith negotiations and made it clear they expected to be paid. The teacher then used coercion to unfairly end the contract discussions. I'm guessing that interfering with contract negotiations like that falls under "breach of contract."
