OA607: Will There Be Justice for Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman? and Bye Bye Miranda Rights!

If you watched Tuesday's hearing, you saw the heartbreaking story of how these two amazing women were viciously slandered by Rudy Giuliani and other members of the big lie insurrectionists. Their lives were turned upside down by complete racist fabrications. Do they have recourse? What will happen?
Then, Andrew breaks down the complete breakdown of the legal fabric of our society. Say goodbye to any meaningful sense in which you have the right to remain silent! The Supreme Court has gutted Miranda rights, because why the f not, apparently. Oh but they make up for it by eroding states' ability to restrict open carry of guns. So that's cool.

This podcast really makes me realize how lucky I am that my parents decided to move to Maryland when I was little.

Two things, and I think both of these were tongue in cheek, but this bears a comment. Re: Gun culture in Arkansas. My sister (and her now-husband) lived in NW AR while she was getting her master's degree from UArk. While living there, they rented a house in a subdivision in Fayetteville. There was a neighbor who routinely set up a target and did target practice across the street, across from a public park. So this guy (and later his pre-teens) would literally stand in a public park and shoot across a public road at their target which was set up in their front yard. The police saw no problem with this. Re: There's nobody in Wisconsin, so no problem with open-carry. As a "weirdo" queer person who grew up in northern Michigan in the 80s and was fired from my first job (in MI) completely legally for being not-straight... the prevalence of guns is extremely dangerous to anyone who doesn't "fit in" in rural areas.
