September Progress Report

Hey pals!

Here's an update on what's going on with the Adobe video! Many of you told us you wanted updates even when it’s not a big update, so here you are!

In the middle of August we went out to Temecula to shoot a bunch of footage. It went really well, RIGHT up until the second to last shot of the final night, when Kat fell down some stairs and sprained her foot really badly.

Appropriately, the final shot was Kat's death. We were gonna dress a skeleton in her clothes and throw it down a set of stairs. Despite being in obvious immense pain, Kat insisted we complete the shot before rushing her to an urgent care facility. This is all on footage of course, so expect a long BTS video after all this, so we can exploit her injury to the fullest possible extent.

Why is the skeleton dressed like buzz lightyear? It will make sense when you see the video. Kat is just out of shot, on a couch in the corner, sweating profusely while pretending she's fine. She wasn't fine!

Here's us (and our AD, Joc) at Urgent Care at around 4 am. Nothing was broken, but it was what they call a “Grade 3 sprain” so she’s had to stay off the foot for the past 6 weeks.

It's a pretty wild looking injury, her whole foot swelled up and went purple the next day. One of her friends described it as "like big purple sausage straining against too small a sausage casing." Between this and the car accidents, you might be asking ‘is your producer cursed?’ A month ago I would have replied ‘curses are not real.’ Now? I don’t know. When I asked her she mumbled something about offending a sorcerer.

For the last month or so I've been editing the footage, making motion graphic visuals, recording/re-recording voiceover, and apologetically bringing Kat food while saying "sorry for ruining your life" over and over. She's graduated to using a cane and is almost recovered enough to help film a few more puppet shots, so hopefully pretty soon there'll be another hefty preview of the video to post.

The final timeline is already solidly over 3 hours and that's missing a ton of bits we want to add, and we haven't shot the conclusion yet for obvious reasons. When we have the green screen puppet shots filmed, I'll render out as much of the video that seems acceptable and put it up here for you guys to see. I got some really good feedback on the last version so parts of the earlier bits will be different too.
