Bonus Video: Building the 'Set'

Now the nightmare is over, I'm looking forward to getting back to normal videos. And by normal I mean, the normal I have never attained but pretend to be capable of. Can I make a video under an hour long?! I hope so!
Now the reveal of the green-screen fake set being a real fake set is out there, I figured I can finally share the footage where I decided it would be funny to do it, and built it in a day without looking for advice or doing any measurements, and mostly in my pajamas. Regrettably, it worked out well enough I learned no lessons about this.
EDIT: I tried testing Patreon's new direct-upload feature with this one. Within minutes I got about 7 comments saying it sucks! It's an unlisted YouTube link now.

I think the phrase to object to is “move fast and break things” which is (was?) one of Facebook’s ethoses. Just keep making new features and do not care about compatibility with old things. I think everything else Hbomb said about how it’s not great in tech but maybe totally works here is still apt, just seemed like the wrong bullshit tech jargon phrase. :P

So to put that in the context of your wall: if the glue was going to come unstuck and cause the whole thing to collapse, you would rather have that happen 5 minutes after you put it up than right in the middle of shooting.

"Fail fast" to me is when you have a system where not working at all is preferable to working improperly. Like if security isn't working properly, you want the system to fail so people can't use an unsecure system until someone fixes it. You don't want it to work partially and enter a state that will be a lot of work to fix.

2023-12-06 12:57:28 +0000 UTCAs someone who works in the tech industry, and only vaguely knows what they're talking about, to me the term "fail fast" is more about market fit, and is generally applicable across a wider range of industries: if you're in the business of making novelty plastic fruit, it's a much cheaper learning experience to hand make a few tens of oranges with angry faces that don't sell at all than it is to develop an entire factory line to make them by the millions only to discover the same thing. To put it more abstractly: failing fast is about knowingly performing smaller research projects to give you the confidence that it is worth it to scale up. It's about shrinking the length of time between starting a project and finding out what's wrong with it. What it's not about is cutting corners, especially with regards to security, safety or integrity. Anyone trying to sell you on that idea needs shunning, anyone hiding the fact they're cutting corners behind the phrase "failing fast" needs.. Well, the metaphor is violent. Anyway I think your wall is fine and the joke in the main video was wonderful.

I always secretly hope when you or Tim Rogers say you want to do shorter videos that you fail and they're longer. That said, my favourite video of yours is still Woke Brands, which seems to get shorter every time I rewatch it.

I currently don't live with a kiln, so I don't really have much control over the firing, I have to just use two very basic automatic schedules that I know work for the clay and glazes I own. Because I can't be bothered learning what the stuff in the glazes is doing it's like a fun gachapon each time. It's fun theorising what the outcome might be, based on previous attempts, but if it fails at least you know for next time. That's why it's so hard when you need to rely on art as an income, too much pressure with no time to experiment. That's my nearly midnight hot thoughts from this extra video, TL:DR thanks I enjoyed it. Makes me want to build something horrible my garage right now.

Most people these days have a phone as their primary computing device, so the comments above are probably on the money. The only downside of unlisted YouTube is if you'd rather have the video not be sharable with non-patrons; but looking at the view count, that didn't seem to be a real phenomenon so far. Keep up the good work.

Now that it's an artistic choice to continue the decay of the set I fully support this decision.
