OA89: The "W" is Silent - Powlitics & Mwedia with Northpod Law UK

Today's show features an in-depth interview with Kirstin Beswick and Ben Knight of NorthPod Law UK, often referred to (by us) as the "Opening Arguments of England."  Join all four of us as we discuss media, politics, Brexit, and maybe -- just maybe -- reasons for optimism about the future of politics.

Due to the length of the interview, we don't have any other segments, but we do end, as always, with the answer to Thomas Take the Bar Exam Question #33 regarding reasonable suspicion to search an auto after a traffic stop.  Don't forget to play along by following our Twitter feed (@Openargs) and/or our Facebook Page and quoting the Tweet or Facebook Post that announces this episode along with your guess and reason(s)!

Fun fact... at one time Boris Johnson was floated as somebody who could be *both* US President and UK Prime Minister. He satisfied the "natural born" requirement for the presidency as he was born in NYC and held dual UK/US citizenship. He has since renounced his US citizenship in order to stop paying federal expat taxes, saying that he had paid "the vast majority" of the taxes he owed to the IRS. Unlike the rest of us who have to pay ALL the taxes we owe.

To pick up something Thomas said, which was that in the US people don't read newspapers... the same is basically true in the UK. People form their opinions from the headlines screamed from the front pages of the Express, Mail and Sun without ever bothering to read the article. That is, they see a headline like "FURY OVER BRITAIN'S 2m ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS" (Express, August 2014), or a picture of three High Court judges with the headline "ENEMIES OF THE PEOPLE" (Daily Mail, November 2016), and just adopt those opinions. Bloody immigrants! Bloody judges! I feel it's almost like the subliminal messages (OBEY, BUY, CONSUME) in the movie "They Live".
