Added 2024-11-15 20:23:14 +0000 UTCMy iMac just died after 5 years of daily use… with movies and big projects in development that might be lost forever.
Apple is a brand I’ve always liked, but since everything is integrated into the screen, it’s much more common to lose the hard drive’s data when these things happen.
I feel fucking terrible.
Luckily, some illustrations and the next chapter of Mei’s project are safe on an external drive… So I’m able to upload some content the next week.
But other projects, like the Zenless Zone Zero animation, were only saved on my computer… And knowing that all that work could be lost makes me feel truly devastated.
As I said on Twitter, I know there’s nothing you can do to help me, but I just need to vent. Just as I share my good moments with you, I also want to share the terrible ones like this.

There are data recovery services than can do some pretty amazing things to recover data, even from Apple products. That said, they aren't cheap and even they cant guarantee success 😬 In any case, I hope you'll come to terms with the loss and continue moving forward. Oh, and look into implementing the 3-2-1 backup rule. It's a well known maxim in IT, and it's saved my bacon a few times.

2024-11-15 23:28:16 +0000 UTCAs someone that works for Geek Squad, Apple makes it nearly impossible to recover data once it reaches a point like that. Likely the drive in the computer is proprietary, nothing like a traditional SSD or M.2 SSD, always feels the worst.
