These photos are from so long ago and really take me back! Of course, I've tried to go over them and give them a 'fresh coat of paint', as I like to say (meaning an updated edit). It's hard to believe this was 10 years ago!
I was living in beautiful San Francisco at the time and had only been playing around with the camera for less than a year at that point. I had a 'friend' who would help me out on some shoots - holding the reflector, taking behind-the-scenes shots, etc. He was a cute young college guy, which meant he knew other cute young college guys. Enter Nathan.
Nathan and my friend were good friends and often worked out together. Nathan was a straight guy - tall, fit and handsome (mixed Japanese and white). He had pretty bad facial acne at the time - in fact it was terrible. Somehow, magically it doesn't appear so in these images 😉 Side note: he and I are still connected via social media and I'm happy to report he's grown out of his acne!
We did this shoot just across the Golden Gate Bridge in the windy, but beautiful Marin Headlands. In retrospect I hate that 99.9% of the shots I've posted have him wearing sunglasses! This was my decision and it could have been for different reasons - the sun was too bright (ha! fat chance in SF), the model had a lazy eye (he didn't), the model was too tired looking (could've been) - or maybe it was just me not knowing what the hell I was doing. I used sunglasses a lot early on in my shoots for different reasons, though I'm happy to say now I'm more than aware that we all need and want to see the model's eyes. Maybe it was all those Miami Beach shoots that had me in sunglass mode. Another thing I've learned since - ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR PHOTOS AND MAKE EXTRA COPIES! I had the raw versions of all these photos EXCEPT the best one - him laughing without sunglasses (previous post). Go figure.
Anyway, hope you enjoy!
