December postcard progress
Added 2024-11-10 20:22:04 +0000 UTCI know we're all a little more stressed than usual going into the holiday season this year, especially those of us in countries rapidly giving way to a fascist right. It's hard, when life continues to persist in the face of something that seems so far a stretch from normal.
I have always wanted to be an artist who can express that kind of grief; who can make beautiful pieces with their heart out and exposed, but I'm just not. In the face of stress, when cortisol is running through my body in as much measure as blood, I freeze. I retreat. I make art of the headspace I'd like to occupy instead.
So when I set these drawings in front of you and they seem so unsuitability blithe, please know that I'm am also aching. Im here; I'm paying attention. I see your pain and I will do what I can to defend you. But I need to make art that is calm.
I need to make art that holds space for me, and hopefully you will be happy to join me there.
