What is AI, page 7.

I'm not the only cartoonist who has something to say about AI:

We are for sure living in them "interesting times".

And the primary issue with allowing A.I. to "self develop" and "self evolve" on its own is the same issue portrayed in Terminator and other similar ones . . . "Purely Logical Thinking devoid of erratic reasoning and emotional empathy". If an A.I. evolves on its own without any guidance or understanding/sense of empathy, then it will always achieve the same "logical conclusion" that Skynet and Ultrom achieve . . . So it's not a matter of "forcing it to think as we do", but to "teach it limits and how not to think purely by logic and algorithms" . . . kinda like in I, Robot, giving an A.I. two separate processors the same way we humans have two pilots, "Reason" and "Emotion", "Logic" and "Empathy", "Order" and "Chaos". But as I said, we are generations away from that level so there's "some time" to get ourselves straightened out before we start worrying about the progeny of our creativity.

"Technically when I talked about us being several dozen generations behind, I was referring to RL A.I. coming close to the level of sentient level" Okay, that checks out. The timetable could be quicker if they let the AI develop itself instead of forcing it to think like we do. That's how the chess AI beat all the other computer players. Totally agree with you on the inability of AI to prompt for images of two or more separate people/species/characters. I've tstruggled sooooooooo many times with that. The only partial success I've had was using in-painting and mock-ups, but it still requires several tries. Looking forward to Midjourney adding a "no background" option.

Technically when I talked about us being several dozen generations behind, I was referring to RL A.I. coming close to the level of sentient level thinking that you see in fictional examples such as Skynet and my personal favorite, Nicole from Sonic the Hedgehog. That's the level of development that spooks a lot of folks . . . but with our current level of development you would need a computer built primarily with Quantum Processors to handle the multi terrabyte level of processing required to match the erratic and unpredictable level of a living human mind . . . meaning you would require a structure the size of you typical insurance office building to house it because of all the cooling systems needed for said processors to function. But yes, A.I. of any creative type has to be painstakingly educated over and over and over again on every small detail before you can even start and then repeated constantly with ever new variable added. and then you still have the algorithmic thinking to bother with . . . Example, with Perchance's free generators . . . even though they have been programmed with Haru from Beastars, the moment you mention Beastars the algorithms automatically focuses on Legoshi because he is the most Iconic default character according to what it knows. So even if you don't mention Legoshi, the moment you mention Beastars, it defaults Legoshi into its recipes very heavily. So, again, A.I.s are fun tools to as assist, but can't really compete with a living artist when it comes to complicated ideas. Prime example . . . an A.I. can do single characters with ease; it can often do pairs but will tend to fuse the two characters together even if you specify "Two Characters" and clarify "different species" and "different genders"; but if you try to get it to do more than two characters in a single scene, you're going to get a real hodgepodge of a mess 95% of the time. Now I know in professional animation the A.I.s are specially designed for the job of animating crowds and large groups--but that's mainly because the artists have already created the individual character pieces and all the A.I. has to fret over is multiplying the creations and animating them, it's not having to do the entire process from scratch. Personally though, I wish I had the skills to create the three super A.I.s I've dreamed up . . . course, letting them loose would likely cause quite the stir, hmmhmmhmm . . . make the anime Summer Wars look like a Sunday afternoon at the park ;-3

A good example you can use is hands. AI had a hell of a time drawing hands because there was so little reference material and what there was is confusing. Hands were being photographed in all sorts of configurations and no context. They had to retrain the AI intensely on just hands before it got good but other problems came up, like when someone holds a weapon/sword/bow is usually not right. Re Giant Judy and small Nick: Have you tried using a mock-up? https://youtu.be/Y1_PQtzxCe4?si=WOeMrzWYbnZdBFW_&t=274 As for AI being several generations behind humans, I think it will be much sooner, especially for animation where things don't have to be photorealistic. I myself use the free A.I. on perchance for an amusing diversion when I need something to either spark me up, or to produce potential study references for my own works. I'm a guy that draws better when I have something to look at, so having an A.I. that can get 30 to 50% close to what I'm trying to get at comes in handy. And the same goes for craft projects . . . and A.I. can be used to produce 1000s of raw images, out of which you might sift 3 to 10 that'll come close to what you are looking to make and you can use them as blueprints. You want to win a fight with money minded idiots, you got to show them that your quality and productivity out shines the computer alone . . . a living being can study a subject and a concept and produce the desired images within a day or so depending on their skill and efficiency . . . an A.I. on the other hand could take weeks to self-program the desired subjects, concepts, etc and still not come close to the desired results because it can only work in Algorithms and the more complicated the desired images are the harder it is for the software to "calculate" how to produce such a result. Example, I've been wanting to see some cute images of Judy Hopps as a mini-giantess capable of picking Nick Wilde up and hugging him like a tyke. I try to detail the images for the A.I. as clearly as I can and provide the need concept key terms for it to focus on . . . but because its Algorithms have Nick programed as being naturally the bigger of the pair, 96% of the images it produces has Nick as cast in the larger role instead of Judy. so out of the 100s of images I had it generate, less than 10 came out close enough to be worth saving to my folders. People need to stop being so dang thick headed . . . out technology is nowhere close to comparing to what we see in movies and anime, so the possibility of A.I. threat is not likely for another dozen generations of none-stop development. A.I. is simply a tool at this point and a tool that is only as good as the one that dedicates themselves to programming it and using it . . . but can still be out shined by somebody who develops themselves even better.

The worst plague to ever beset the world . . . "Human Stupidity". I'll bet even money that half the jerks that hurt that poor soul couldn't draw a simple image without a computer's assistance. So they've got no grounds to stand on, and no business bullying somebody that needs a computer's help a little bit more than they did.

There was a guy at Daily Kos who used AI to make a few political cartoons because he could never draw well regardless of how much he tried. They were good and showed a lot of promise. Unfortunately the anti-AI people on the site shamed and berated him until he stopped. No artist was put out of work, no cartoonist starved, no one had their art stolen, but one person's dreams were smothered by hatred.

Paul Lenoue

All this is much ado about nothing because there is nothing that can stop the inevitable rise of the AI artist. They're arguing about the tide coming in.
