I agree. I personally have no faith whatsoever in the institute of marriage. I have a niece with a live-in boyfriend. They had a daughter together and live happily as a couple raising their daughter without ever having gone through any marriage ceremony. Reacher in this case could become Kate's live-in boyfriend and sleep with her when he's not out hunting skells.

There's a great many positives like joint ownership of shared property and dutaful resposibility to any kids that might result, but in a modern world where love should matter more than any legal system it just makes more sense to me that folks stay together because they want to be together rather than some legal binding form.
