But before I could organize a run by the bank, they snatched it back! Let my mistake be a lesson to you, kids: If some normally tightfisted skinflint cuts you a check, don't give them time to think twice: cash it immediately!

2022-12-10 21:56:22 +0000 UTCThe vulgar boatman looks like a refugee from an Aardman short. I had an employer for a security job who had a habit of gambling away the payroll deposit every other week. We had to run to the bank to have a prayer of getting paid. It was a Government-DOD job, so after the second time we staged a sick-out ('blue flu') the Gummint set U.S. Marshals watch on him -- they followed him with orders to cuff 'im and stuff 'im if he went near a race track or an OTB parlor. A year after I left I had a weekend job watching a drug lord's house for the Marshals. One of the Marshals I relieved said she wished she could have gotten that assignment -- those guys ate wherever the boss ate!
