I thought we had left the era of what ever Tharntype was (I know its a classic and I love the actors but the more I think about it the worse it gets, what the fuck was that??? It was so rapey and toxic oh my god)

I feel shows like this demonstrate the problem with taking from erotic stories and making a live action show from it. Its fine in sexual fantasies to imagine someone super hot is so overcome by how much they want you that they can’t even control themselves. But in real life it’s not ok. A lot of these behaviors are huge red flags. So seeing it acted out by real people becomes problematic. I think BL producers just want to take from popular erotic stories because they know their show will have a pre-existing fan base. But those stories were popular because they portray a sexual fantasy not because they were good examples of romance, love, or even sex (some of the sex in these stories is honestly so awful it makes me question if the writer has ever had sex!!). Then when people try to watch the show it’s like who thought this was sweet or sexy?! Once upon a time finding LGBT+ shows that didn’t end in tragedy was a miracle. But now there are tons of LGBT+ shows coming out all over the world. So I guess now I’m feeling more critical when I watch them and want them to do a better job showing LGBT+ relationships. I get that BLs are meant to be fluffy romance/drama and not represent real life. But at the very least they could be less rapey/stalker-ish!
