Well, Berecki is the mundane kind of dead- While we don't have evidence that he can't resurrect himself/make himself undead, the fact that he's not come back or attacked magic users in 3 years either means any means of return he has takes a long time, or he's got no way back.

Except for the sound diving, all the magic the Mink has done, fire, lighting, flying, healing, growing, etc, are all naturally observable phenomena. If the mages of yor were just trying to recreat what they knew and saw around them, then think about what and evil magic physicist could do! Radiation spells, nuclear fission spells, magically animated nerve gas, etc. To say nothing of modern germ and chemical experts!
