Love in the Arena, page 9.

Today's post has had to run a gauntlet to finally be posted. I'm in Iceland at the moment (story in my next massletter), where I have no scanner. But putting my crude social skills to use, I schmoozed my good host, Jean Posocco into scanning it for me.

Even so, it was not quite perfect. So I labored to download Photoshop Elements onto my laptop, so's I could clean up the pic before posting. After 3 tries, I finally succeeded. Whereupon I discovered I had a trial version of Photoshop already on there. Ooops. My memory is failing badly. But anyhow, you get your Herman on Saturday, as the gods intended. Enjoy!

Threyon

2 to 4 for those early nukes today you would have to be 100 miles away to no be killed outright. 200 miles for Complete survival no Radiation. there would be a Crater 2 to 4 miles deep at ground zero. but a Neutron device you would have 3 time that range and some scorching at ground zero but you could move in in a year considering the None Neutron device where it would be 100,000 years before you could set foot in the biosphere without suffering genetic damage. only difference is they take the shielding off the warhead casing. this is why they would not use a thorium reactor. you could not make bombs from the waste of that reactor because there is no none destructive waste... sorry I found out a few years ago that they started out with a Thorium Reactor and converted that reactor to run on Uranium and synthetic Plutonium because all you can do with a thorium reactor is make power.

<i>"Jamie wants a <b>big</b> boom!"</i> --Adam Savage, <i>Mythbusters</i> I was thinking about you tonight. At dinner, one of my table companions said that she and her husband had visited Iceland recently.

Well, a mile and in a bunker wouldn't be horrible for a simple implosion device like the Gadget or Fat Man (ca. 20kT). However, if they are skipping over to a fusion boosted design, or a full-on Teller-Elam two-stage design, then they are in for quite literally the surprise of their lives - as in the last surprise they shall ever have.

Skunkupine

Someone is in for a horrifying surprise.
